Lived in area or 20 years and just discovered this area thanks to Covid restrictions and only being able to explore 5km from home! What a gem of a place? Fantastic wetland/ marsh land area with clearly defined walking tracks, or bike riding tracks. There are sign posts scattered throughout indicating different tracks. I entered via Winton Vale Rd- but very close to Hawkestow Station on the Mernda line from the city. As a local, am very used to seeing kangaroos but yes, there are lots of roos here....also echidnas, wombats and a large variety of birds. Watch out for snakes- wear good shoes. Peaceful and full of bird noises as you amble along. Walking tracks were mostly flat and easy to manage, occasional muddy parts or little streams of water to cross. This area links into the Hawkestowe picnic area and the landscape is quite diverse within a small area. Lots of bluestone rocks and open grasslands too. I'll be visiting again and again... Great place for a picnic too.

Nice green hills with all the good views of the surrounding area and the city. Heaps of wildlife in the area.
