We always visit the Patriot Museum while in Lake George. No entry fee. The owner is so friendly and always happy to share his knowledge of the pieces which he has collected throughout his life that are on display in the museum. There are artifacts from all around the world with a large collection of American war memorabilia. Some are for sale, and very reasonably priced. Reminds us to reflect and be thankful to all of those who served and safeguarded our freedom. If you bring children in, they will be sure to learn something worthwhile and there are inexpensive toy soldiers for sale. It is on a side street off Canada Street, center of town of Lake George. Very grateful for this little museum.

Fort William Henry is located on the site of the original French and Indian War fort at the south shore of Lake George. Experience how the soldiers fought and died at this wilderness outpost and learn the REAL history behind the surrender and massacre made famous by James Fennimore Cooper's, "Last of the Mohicans". Cannon and musket demonstrations Open May - October.
The original Fort William Henry Fort was burned down by the French during the French & Indian War, but this recreation is true to history and a delight to tour. Costumed guides demonstrate both canon and musket firings, and the walls of the fort are full of great displays about the fort's and area's history. Kids love the firing of the canon! There is a 12-minute film that tells the history of the war in the area and the role of the fort in particular. Well worth a visit.

I went into this place 3 times this past week. Twice last night and once at the beginning of the week. My eight year old daughter loved it. So we kept going back in. Having been a horror film critic for 13 years prior, I was excited to see what awaited me in House of Frankenstein. Last time I was here I was eight and I was terrified to enter. for the sake of parents with little ones, it all depends on how well your children can handle the dark. All the exhibits are behind glass or are caged off with the exception of a few features towards the end. There are some scary exhibits where body's move around and loud noises and chainsaws, bangs and screams can be heard. some of these exhibits you can skip, others are just part of the show. its a lot of fun and is not as scary as most haunted houses. There are no people jumping out to scare you. (My eight year old did jump out of a corner and scare some teenage girls.) But unless she's there, there is nothing to worry about on that end. Most of the exhibits are of early horror films and Edgar Allen Poe stories. Some Historical horror such as Salem Witch trials and mid-evil torture, and some modern horror like Predator and Freddy and Jason. Overall Its a fun little place to visit.
