My friend and I are fairly active, but not super in shape and we made it up the stairs in 30 minutes with breathing breaks. We got sweaty and red, it wasn’t easy, but it was a lot quicker than we thought. Technically there are more like 1,100 steps - I feel that’s important haha. You park on the side of the highway and just start straight up the hill, after the informational sign - you see step #1. The steps were large and secure, that was nice. When you get to the top, there is a cool stone building to your left and another short hike up to a gorgeous view of Juniata River and the train around town. If you go to the right from the top, there is an expansive view from a shorter flatter walk. Walking down almost took longer because we were afraid to trip and fall. We went slow and our knees were trembling haha. There were a fair amount people, so you have to step to the side to let them up. There were 2 crazy people that ran up and ran down it, they were probably there from start to finish only 20 minutes. But we looked around and enjoyed it - all together 2 hours. The next day my calves were sore, that’s it. Totally doable, just take breaks.

Located directly south of downtown Pittsburgh, this lively neighborhood boasts an active business district in addition to scenic parks and recreational activities.
We took the Duquesne Incline up Mount Washington and enjoyed the spectacular and panoramic view of the city looking down on the confluence of the three rivers (Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio) and Point Lookout Park.

The tour guide at Lincoln Caverns suggested Thousand Steps so we thought we would give it a try. Very pretty hike. Beautiful view from the top and some cool history info too.

This is it if it’s peace and quiet that you are looking for. Or fishing from a kayak. Or a place for the kids to swim in an uncrowded lake. Unless it’s just a day trip, figure on camping because there are no hotels around. This is truly out in the middle of nowhere!
