I don’t really know where to start with this review. We were traveling back from Senja, so instead of driving for two days we decided to book two hotels over two nights and booked the Scandic Fauske as our first stop, which was highly recommended by a family member. We were tired so we’re hoping for the experience that would leave us feeling relaxed and happy for the next leg of our journey down south. We have a cat traveling with us and so far this hasn’t caused us any problems, and on our way up we did stop in Mo I Rana for one night and stayed in a lovely room in a hotel there. We did have to pay an extra 200kr to bring him but that was okay as the room was pretty nice and comfortable. When I booked the room at scandic, I called them to check that we could add the cat on and I would pay the extra 200kr and that was fine. I wasn’t prepared for the literal box we would be put in when we got there. We had travelled almost 7 hours to Fauske so we were tired and ready for some good food and drinks to top our day off. But the last of our good mood quickly disappeared when we saw the size of the room. It was about 3 Mtr sq, the bathroom was so tiny you could wash your hands whilst sitting on the toilet. I’ve never stayed in a room so small in a hotel before. There was no carpet on the floor (not sure if other rooms are carpeted, I suspect we were stuck in here because of the cat, who has a litter box and is fully trained). There was one pillow each in the bed, again, I’ve never had to ask for extra pillows and when I did, the woman on the reception seemed affronted that I was asking for them. My partner went out to pay for an upgrade on the room to get something slightly bigger, and the lady did start to check but then remembered we had the cat and said no. So we had to stay in that room. We decided to get ready for dinner and went out to the dining room. Figuring this would lift our annoyance at having paid 1690kr for a box. We were given menus and when the waitress came, we ordered the steak from the menu, the most expensive item on there, only to be told that they didn’t have it. We’re both chefs so this just seemed ridiculous to us and to not mention that when you are seating people is bad management. The first thing you do when you give people menus, if you don’t have something in stock, is tell them so they don’t order that very thing. My partner was really annoyed at this point, so he rang another restaurant (Orlando bar and grill) to see if they could fit us in and they did. It literally saved our evening. We came back to the hotel, and went to bed. We had a pretty decent breakfast, I will say that, There was quite the spread of different choices. As we were checking out, the woman on reception, didn’t ask us how our stay was, or anything, just told us to put our key in the bowl and didn’t say goodbye. Seriously lacking in customer service etiquette, it’s standard to wish people a pleasant stay or a good trip. She didn’t even smile or seem interested at all. Why have people working there if they don’t want to be there? I’m really disappointed that I had to pay so much for the room, it was a 800kr room at best, so tiny, you couldn’t swing a cat in it, excuse the pun but it was just ridiculous. And the fact that we were willing to pay extra to upgrade the room also should have been considered, If it’s obvious a guest is not happy with their room you should do what you can to help. I understand that the hotel stated it was fully booked but hotels often a few extra rooms that they don’t sell for different reasons. I’m sure had we not had an animal our experience would have been different, but I absolutely would not recommend staying here if you are traveling with one. The hotel is very nice, the dining area, the entrance etc but the rest of it was lacking.

We are located on the hill on a peninsula stretching out into Skjerstadfjord. Here is a unique view to the sea on both sides of the camp and a wonderful view down to Fauske, located 3 km away from us. It is 300 meters and go down to a very nice beach with cliffs that extend into the water. Beautiful scenery around the camp, and many trails for those who want to go hiking. There are many good fishing spots just minutes walk from the camping. Location: – 50km from Saltstraumen incredible fishing opportunities in one of the world’s strongest tidal currents. – 38km from Sulitjelma with mining history, hiking in the beautiful national parks, Norland high arctic mountain and one blue-ice. – 53km from Bodo city with much culture and big city life. A city where you can walk the docks in the fresh sea air and drop in on some cafe or pub and enjoy the people, the sea and the city. – 100km north of the Arctic Circle where you will find the polar circle.
I travelled around Norway for 2 weeks in early June 2012 and I stayed in a cabin at Lundhogda camping in early June 2012. The owners Ann and her husband were extremely friendly and accommodating, I travel a lot all over the world and have never taken the time to write a review on trip advisor before, but because of remarkable hospitality shown and friendliness I felt I had to write. The camp is family run and very clean and the facilities were always 100% up to scratch. There is a shop on site from which most supplies can be got and an excellent restaraunt. My cabin was spacious and very clean and had cooking and refridgeration facilities, and when I had a personal problem that necessitated me returning home to Ireland the owners were incredibly generous in helping me out, and went well beyond what could possibly be expected. Apart from that that the camp is in a lovely elevated location with water ( not sure if it is a fjord or lake) and mountain views, and is in a quiet area approx a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive to Fauske.

My main disappointment was not reading reviews prior to booking. We had an awkward check in because we don’t speak Norwegian but I used Google Translator hoping this would help. The lady behind the counter wouldn’t let me pay with Visa and sent me into town to get cash then charged me an exorbitant amount for linen. I would have accepted the extreme pricing for the cabin and linen if the cabin was as it should have been but it smelt awful and wasn’t up to our standards. We definitely won’t stay again. The location is good as is the setting but the service and the accommodation is poor. The worst we’ve encountered on our holiday through Norway.
