Perfect stopover

Modern, clean and comfortable. It is a stopover, one night, location rather than a base for exploration as there are no common areas nor restaurant. The first floor gives you nice views to the mountains. Breakfast is a very basic self-serve matter with toast and instant coffee. The metalwork artefacts on the walls are a masterpiece and are wonderful - see the large peacock or the flowers, for example.

Experience Authentic Northern Thailand at Rico Resort

Rico Resort is a lovely place to visit in a less touristy area of Thailand! Staying here you get a wonderful feel of small town living. The hotel rooms are large with high ceilings two large beds with romantic netting. There is air conditioning but no TV (didn't need one, kids were happy with wifi). The bathrooms also have sunlights and overlook a small stream and quiet fields behind the resort. The hotel restaurant is open air, as is the porch linking the rooms. With it being open air there is some wildlife about, but nothing that bothered us. There are tennis courts on site and use of a pool a short walk away. The owner, Rico, took our family on a quirky, unexpected, whirlwind tour of the town and surrounding villages. We stayed two nights, but I recommend three. I can't name many of the places we went to but they were all interesting and unique in their own way. Rico seemingly knew everyone and had a story to go with them. He is American, but has lived in Thailand for decades and loves to promote his little corner of the world. Bicycling is the best way to get to see this town, surrounding rice paddies and farmland. He tailored the biking to be easy for our family. Rico took us to see lovely views overlooking the valley, a picnic next to a reservoir, visited an lovely old lady who weaves and looked around her historic teak home, stopped many temples and climbed up places to have great views, a koi cafe with delicious cakes and cold drink, and one of a kind a tour of a friend's house with Disneyesque waterfalls, pools, King Kong and tyrannosaurus rex in the basement. Meals at the resort were buffet style with starters, soup, salad, vegetarian dishes, and Thai dishes. They also provided western dishes for my youngest son who was a picky eater. Everything was delicious. I do not hesitate to recommend a visit Rico Resort and the Chiang Kham area. Make sure you get a bicycle tour arranged.

HomeandHomestay

Welcome to HomeandHomestay This beautiful house was built by us with love for my parents 14 years ago. Teak wood makes it stunning. It was also the first house we built in life. We love it a lot. Now it is renovated to provide a home to our guests and moved to it's current location. Stay with us and let nature take care of you. Our place is not just a homestay but it is our and your home. We very much care about the environment and try to reduce our impact every day (which can be a challenge in the Thai countryside). Around this house we plant many trees to keep temperature comfortable. We live without air-conditioning. We let nature do the cooling . Our homestay is different, while truly local we make it more than comfortable with high quality mattress and bedding. The furniture is a mixture of modern and family antiques. Everything has a its own story. Our family is a mixture of local Thai and European. Most of the family has lived here for over 35 years and is part of the local community. Our village shop located next to the homestay is meeting point for the people in the village. Our homestay and our guests are important to us and we serve our guests as local people and from the heart but are not (yet) hotel professionals, We are always happy to receive suggestions on how to improve our business. We do not always have English language skills on site (but its only are only a phone call away) and make up for it with our eagerness to please. One important aspect of us is that we live with nature and do small scale organic farming for our own (and your) food. We buy from local sources what we cannot grow ourselves. Animals are part of daily life in the Thai countryside. We are particularly fond of them and have regularly taken in rescue animals. On our large property you can find chicken, ducks, geese, turkeys, cow, goat, cats, dogs. They are all part of the extended family and not for food production. Most are kept away when we have guests (but you can visit them if you wish We are located only 5km from Chiang Kham in a local community . -The local Chiang Kham morning market is very interesting to visit . Best time 5.30-7.00am -There are many important temples to visit in the area, Wat Nantaram, a teak temple in Shan style is not to be missed. -PHU CHI FA on the Lao border is located north of Thoeng From Phu Sang Water fall about 60 min up a winding mountain road. -Phu Langka: 45 min from our place and on the way to Nan -Phu Chi Dao is close to Phu Chi Fah (and less busy)-Namtok Phu Sang is a scenic waterfall about 20 min north of Chiang Kham. The water comes from a hot spring with water temperatures around 35°C. In the north of Thailand there are 3 seasons: The hot season from March to May, in this season you see many plants and trees blooming with beautiful smell. Local agriculture reduces to a minimum Green or rainy season from June to November, here you see nature exploding and and local farming is at it's peak. This is a beautiful time to visit and not as busy as the cool season Cool Season: From November to February, the weather is beautifully refreshing at night and and comfortably warm in the daytime.
