Reviewed By SunScarredGingerI've done a fair bit of traveling over the past ~6 years and I can say, without a doubt, that this was the best hostel I have ever stayed at! Although quite a long walk into the hills of Yufuin, everything about this hostel is fabulous. That walk I was talking about? Gorgeous. The town of Yufu itself is so-so, but the country side is incredible. Ryo and Tomo, the husband and wife owners of the hostel, have developed an environment of a family welcoming you into their home (which they are). The small onsen is a great refresher from a morning hiking Yufu Dakke, and if one wants a more luxurious onsen, there are plenty just down the road. I honestly cannot say enough good about this place and the owners. I will 100% be coming back to this hostel my next time traveling through Kyushu.

good cheap stay for a private room
Reviewed By CrimsonKookaburraAgree with the other reviewers that it's well equipped and in a great central location. Yes it's a bit worn down, though it didn't bother me since everything was still clean and functional. Though when I was searching, it was easily the cheapest decent place for a private room (shared bath) in central Beppu - don't know how the prices compare for a dorm room though. There is a communal full kitchen so you can also cook. Staff hours are a bit weird - I think it was 8 to 10 am and 5 to 10 pm, though there are free lockers with locks to use, rather than just leaving your things on the side somewhere.

Reviewed By D6410GGgregorybQuite a long way from the bus and train stations. No kitchen to use. In house meals not good value plus hostel manager's kitchen looked a bit dirty. One shower which is locked until you ask for it to be unlocked.
