We had an awesome time with Equus Rides and Cowboy Steve!! My 12 year old daughter Olivia and I rode 2 very experienced, gentle, easy to ride horses, Dublin and Genji, his best friend who absolutely loves to swim in the water!!! Cowboy Steve is extremely knowledgeable and entertaining as he describes the island history and interesting facts about the local flora and fauna. The horses managed the coral on the beach and in the water very well with no problem. What an awesome experience, I cannot even describe the feeling of riding a horse as it swims through the water!!!! This is something I’ve wanted to do my entire life and I’m so happy I was able to include my daughter. It was an absolute highlight of our trip and I can’t thank you enough for the experience!!!! ❤️

Take a guided horseback ride through the rain forest, past Danish ruins, along beautiful white sand beach with palm trees and spectacular vibrant blues of the sea, while discovering a wide palette of tropical sights and sounds from kapok trees, tarzan vines and wild bromilliads to gigantic termite nests and tame honey bee hives.
Jill was an excellent guide and so knowledgeable about the plant life on the islands! My horse was very responsive and listened well, and I had a wonderful ride! Jill has lived all her life on the island and helped share her love of the island during the ride!

I am primarily a rescue with some horses donated by their owners due to lack of time or space. I have a simple, yet safe facility for all concerned and is a haven for other animals as well, including donkeys, sheep, goats, a hog, duck, cats, dogs and a whole lot of chickens! We're surrounded by beautiful scenery with a cool tropical breeze. I welcome riders from 8 years old on up and match them to the appropriate mount providing instruction as needed. Riders can arrange to arrive early to groom with instruction, then saddle their mount. After a short lesson we head out on a beautiful ride along the water to a coral strewn beach for pictures. Then head up the hill to view east end St. John and the neighboring British Virgin Islands. I allow some trot and canter at this time. We wade in the water on our way back. Flowering trees and vines interspersed with cacti with several species of birds of prey including Kestrals, Redtail Hawks & Magnificent Frigate Birds! Visitors Welcome Anytime!
I really enjoyed this with my family. If you are planning on showing up and getting a "clean & pristine" experience this is not for you. This is an animal rescue that has lot of animals including horses. We got a chance to practice in the corral with our horses and had a great ride. Keep in mind this is a small operation, basically Dana and the island and all businesses are working to recover from the hurricane. Again - my family had a great time, but we were OK with mud and things you would normally find at a working farm.
