The tour it's a perfect mix of history, culture and architecture, especially for those who want to discover the city in an unique way, but not spending too much time on it or gaining too much and maybe ''boring'' information. It will provide you a good understanding of why Oradea is considered the Art-Nouveau capital of Romania and why it is known as ''the city of kings'', all these behind the legends that stays in the back of the city construction. Tasting traditional food is another way of disovering local culture. ”Plăcintă” is is a Romanian, Moldovan and Ukrainian traditional pastry resembling a thin, small round or square-shaped cake, usually filled with apples or a soft cheese such as ”Urdă”. This Romanian spirit is now known even in Japan. It is ”palinca” or ”tuica”, a liquor that is always present on any Ardeal peasant’s table and not only.

This tour will allow the tourists to visit the most spectacular Gothic-style castle in Romania. Corvin Castle was built by the Anjou family on the site of a former Roman camp. The castle served as a fortress until the mid-14th century when it became the residence of Transylvania's voivode, Iancu de Hunedoara (Ioannes Corvinus in Latin, Hunyadi in Hungarian). Iancu upgraded the fortress transforming it into a stunning Transylvania castle.

My husband and I visited Oradea in early June and wanted to see not only some of the highlights of the city but also specific attractions. My parents grew up in Oradea and I wanted to see the Cris river (on whose banks my dad walked with his first girlfriend), the Jewish conservative synagogue and the place where the Jews were taken to the camps by train (now a park). Arin was highly personable, knowledgeable and flexible and made our tour a delightful experience. He started by showing us the fascinating Oradea citadel (a must-see), whose moat with hot water from thermal springs kept invaders at bay. It is believed to be the best preserved citadel in Europe built in the Renaissance style, erected between the years 1077-1095 by King Ladislau I. (In the beginning it was a fortified monastery, later it was transformed into a citadel, which became the headquarters of the Roman-Catholic Diocese of Oradea.) Arin then took us to the open market (really, it had some kind of a roof to protect u s from the elements), huge in size, and offering a great variety of beautiful produce, fruits and vegetables), and flowers. He then walked us through parts of the beautiful city and its varied architecture, pointing out all sorts of interesting things, and then walked with us, continuing to explain everything, to the sites we wanted to see, including some new ones that he thought we might want to see (he was right). Arin is a superb guide. His English is flawless, he is fun to be with, accommodating, helpful and dedicated to giving his clients the best possible experience. I recommend not only this particular walking tour (which, for us, was memorable), but also Arin as a guide. We felt so fortunate to have found him.
If Transylvania is on your bucket list, pack your garlic and get ready for the adventure of your lifetime! Universal literature found valuable sources of inspirations in some of Romania’s castles, so that now we can enjoy the famous “Dracula” by Bram Stoker and “The Castle in the Carpathians” by Jules Verne. Transylvania is the last truly medieval landscape in Europe, definitely feels like a travel back in time, like if you’ve gone back 100 years. If you are looking for peace and harmony this is the perfect place for you. Transylvania is best known as the mysterious land of bloodthirsty vampires and howling wolves. Some may think it’s fictional, but this central Romanian region is a real place. And it’s pretty special, too. Transylvania means ‘the land beyond the forest’ and feels undiscovered. Here’s one of Eastern Europe’s most captivating regions.
