Pinnacle Park

Reviewed By jmpncsu - Raleigh, United States

We took our dog for a hike at Pinnacle Park and had a great time. It was right after snow the park was winter wonderland. We made a loop with East Fork and West Fork Trails to go up to the Pinnacle for stunning views of the mountains and Sylva far down below. We also made a detour to Gina Falls and Fisher Falls. The waterfalls are off trail and somewhat difficult to find, though Fisher Falls is visible from East Fork Trail. The going was slow in the snow, but if we return, I'd like to also hike to Blackrock Mountain.

Panthertown Valley

I visited Panthertown and took an all day hike up, down, and around mountains and waterfalls. I purchased the map you can find online by Burt Kornegay, and have a hard time imagining hiking without it. The trails have scant blazing and there are many social trails. You can easily get turned around if you are not prepared. As an added bonus, the map will include the social trails that will lead you to hidden waterfalls that very few people visit. I have lots more exploration to go at this park, but it's the most fun I have had outdoors in West Carolina. The best part is that this park is less frequented by others and you are likely not to see many people during the day. This is a must do when venturing into nature in the area.

Chattooga River Loop Trail

Cashiers is a wonderful get-away for outdoor lovers. We stayed in a motel with our dog and enjoyed hiking especially the CRL trail. Saw many gorgeous waterfalls. Hike up White Mountain and an overlook near the nature museum. Cashiers is often overshadowed by Highlands but it much more affordable with quaint restaurants and great shopping (although not as convenient as Highlands). A little more driving to find the good places to go.

5. Rain Bow

Gorges State Park Rainbow Falls, Sapphire, NC
