South Australia (abbreviated as SA) is a state in the southern central part of Australia. It covers some of the most arid parts of the country. With a total land area of 983,482 square kilometres (379,725 sq mi), it is the fourth-largest of Australia's states and territories by area, and fifth largest by population. It has a total of 1.7 million people, and its population is the most highly centralised of any state in Australia, with more than 75 percent of South Australians living in the capital, Adelaide, or its environs. Other population centres in the state are relatively small.

I always go on Parliament House tours where possible and South Australia's offering did not disappoint. It was a very relaxed affair: at each stop myself and the 2 other visitors on this particular 10am public tour were able to wander around the immediate vicinity and inspect whatever caught our eyes while asking the very helpful guide questions about the building and how SA politics works (all 3 of us visitors were from interstate). The highlight was undoubtedly the opulent Legislative Assembly chamber where you can sit in the Speaker's chair and also in the MP's seats (in my opinion the 2nd most elaborate legislative chamber in Australia after the VIC Legislative Council). Other stops included the Legislative Council (unusually austere for an upper house), the Library and various corridors with portraits of historical figures and photos from the building's history. Bonus points for permitting photography throughout the tour. Allow just over an hour for this free and fascinating visit.

Attended an official function. Packed hall. Walked in to hear ‘Mad scientist music’ being played. Was sensational. Architecture beautiful. Credit to early politicians.
