It is known that this cathedral was built prior to 1645, yet it was not considered a cathedral back then. In the 18th century, it was used for housing religious services and it was in 1775 that the chapel go its name. In the 19th century, it got expanded and throughout the 20th century, the cathedral got remodeled multiple times until it reached its present form. The church got promoted to cathedral in 1964 when the Roman Catholic Diocese of Caguas was created by Pope Paul VI. You can visit the beautiful cathedral and admire its antique architecture or enjoy a nice view of the cathedral while taking a walk through Plaza Santiago R. Palmer.
