The oldest year-round continuously operating tour and accommodations facility along both the Denali Highway AND the 160 mile stretch of the Richardson Highway from Glennallen to Delta Junction. This is the ORIGINAL "Denali Highway Cabins and Tours;" we also use the name "Paxson Alpine Tours." Please do not be confused by others' misleading names.
We stayed there for two nights and our cabin had a excellent sundowner view. The breakfast was fresh an delicious and as Paxston does not provide restaurants you were welcome to use the grill area to prep your food. In the mornings the owner joined you for breakfast and tells you everything you need to know about the area. Highly recommended

My wife and I snowmachined the Denali Highway from Paxson and spent the night of March 7th at the lodge. Our stay was nothing short of excellent. The lodge is very well run. The food was all terrific, particularly the homemade bread. The cabin rooms are really nice and comfortable. And, the owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating. As the only operating lodge along the western portion of the highway, it is welcoming, warm, and delightful. If you make the trip, just be aware that Maclaren River Lodge is the first place along the highway (from the Paxson side) that has any services. The Tangle River Inn and the Tangle Lakes Lodge are both currently closed. On our trip in, we passed 1 group with 5 snowmachines, and on our trip out, we didn't pass anyone else. Solitude and privacy are great until your machine breaks down, so be prepared; however, also be prepared for a wonderful and unforgettable trip into the Alaska backcountry. It sad to say that this once thriving business and welcome wayside on the Denali Highway is now closed. They closed at the end of the season in 2019 and due to Covid-19 never reopened in 2020. So many great memories of staying at the lodge, visiting with Jack, Nadine and Violet, fishing the lakes a river nearby……. If you’re looking for a historic piece of Alaska, the old Tangle River Inn is for sale. Maybe one day it will live again

My husband and I were lucky enough to travel to Alaska in June, 2015. What a trip! We started in Anchorage, drove to Valdez (a BEAUTIFUL drive and a great little town!), then on to McCarthy (another beautiful drive and great tiny town!!) and then on to Denali. McCarthy to Denali is a long trip so we were lucky enough to stay at Mile Post 42; Denali Highway Tours and Cabins and Crazy Dog Kennel. I love to take photos and I love dogs so this was a highlight of our trip for me. Zoya and her intern, Helen, were wonderful hosts. The cabin was rustic and comfy. There were 80+ dogs on the property and you could have heard a pin drop at night. It was quieter here than at our home in Upstate NY where our neighbors one dog barks non-stop! Zoya's dogs are happy and content and it shows in their calm demeanors. Dinner was right next door at the Maclaren River Lodge, a two minute walk. We loved our stay here and wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of all this location has to offer. Thank you, Zoya. We hope to come back again some day!
