Mhlumeni Bush Camp

Mhlumeni is situated on a gently undulating plateau overlooking the dramatic Mhlabashana Gorge. Bounded on the three sides by the Mlawula Nature Reserve. The area has outstanding hiking and ecotourism potential. The Mhlumeni community tented camp has magnificent views over the Mozambican Coastal plains to the North- East and the Swaziland Lowveld to the west into Mlawula. The camp has 5 luxury tents that accommodate three/ four people each with separate shared ablutions; bedding and towels provided. Mhlumeni has space for at least 40 people camping. Each camping spot has a braai area and water point, no electricity. Solar lanterns are used to light up the darkness of the night. Traditional menus are prepared by the camp staff and guests have an option to self-cater A great place for a sundowner- the views to western Swaziland(Eswatini) are amazing and overlooks the nearby Mlawula Reserve, Hlane National Park and neat fields about 150 km away. Nature and cultural walks are offered to visitors by trained community guides. Learn about the Lubombo plants and medicinal uses from a local Sangoma (traditional healer) and not miss out on the opportunity to hike to the amazing waterfall in the area. The Camp is owned and run by the community of Mhlumeni and is part of a transboundary trail with Goba community in Mozambique, as part of the Lubombo Eco Trail. The Mhlumeni Bush Camp ha s made great strides forward!

I came back to Mhlumeni in early April - and I noted a lot of improvements to the facility. A conference facility (for 30 - 50 people max) had been added - and also some sanitary units at four of the luxury tents. These, however, were not yet up to standard. Samson, Nomsa and Sizakele are doing a wonderful job in managing the place . They really make you feel welcome and comfortable - and prepare excellent food! Be sure to ask for "Eggs from the Poultry Project"!

Malolotja Wood Cabins

Beautiful setting less beautiful accommodation

Reviewed By Thewebbsite1

The setting is stunning and unique and the cabins have a fabulous outlook. The cabins themselves are spacious and have clean and comfortable beds...however not much else is very clean and very little maintenance has been done for some time. The water is a deep brown and the bathroom had the smell of a public urinal. However...it was perfect for our family and was one of the cheapest places in Mbabane area. It should really be cheaper still but worth a trip.

Shocker

Booked as an overnighter on the way back from Mozambique, paid in full for bed and breakfast prior to our arrival, and emailed the manager in advance to book for dinner, which he confirmed. When we arrived (about 19h00) the place was practically deserted. Absolutely nothing available from the restaurant. Ended up braaing our own wors we happened to have in the car. We had booked 2 rooms but the 3 of us ended up staying in 1 room as the single female was anxious about security after being harassed at the reception area. Neither the fan nor the aircon in the room worked, and the light went out after about 1 minute. The toilet didn't flush. I think the linen was clean but couldn't really tell seeing as though there was no light. Nothing really good to say about the place. Avoid.
