North Carolina Baseball Museum

We started our Ultimate Baseball Trip 2019 at the museum. What a start is was! Eddie Boykin was a most accommodating host! He went above and beyond. We hope he was able to finish mowing the lawn before dark. We thoroughly enjoyed his knowledge of the game, the North Carolina players and teams. We held our own with his trivia questions. So happy we made it the first stop of our trip. We wish the Tobs had been in town because we would have enjoyed a game at Fleming Stadium. Will recommend to all family and friends. Worth much more than the price of admission!

Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park

Take a ride to downtown Wilson and you will find old tobacco warehouses and the Whirligig park, along with many other neat things. It is hard to explain a large windmill park other than in words like "cool and I never thought I would see something like this" Stop and take a look.

Wow. Let me start by saying this is a beautiful park. Coming from a tourist town in Myrtle Beach which is run down, old, and just severely neglected. I wasn't too sure about going to a "no name" town that isn't talked about like Savannah or NYC or Asheville. And I've been to all. Our family loves to travel and we try to,l go to places we've never been. Again, being from a tourist town, we want to enjoy outdoors, but avoid crowds! With that being said, we TripAdvisor Wilson and Rocky Mount and since I am a bridge photographer, I look for any unique bridges to photograph for my Instagram page @chasingbridgesusa This park is stunning. Clean. And just plain amazing. The bridge, I learned through research is 1,000 feet long and completed in 2018 I believe it said. It was clean, wide enough for foot traffic to pass by without stopping or moving over. It was durable and just picturesque! My husband and daughter said the facilities / bathrooms were super clean, and pretty. A pretty bathroom... wow that's a first. My husband said they were maintained and kept up. They have disc golf which myrtle beach does too so its not something we did in Wilson. We had out dog with us, which it was very pet friendly. There were geese all over the place. I don't know who keeps up with the park but there was no geese or dog droppings anywhere. There was a kayak launch and piers for fishing. We were excited to talk about another trip there just to fish and kayak! What an awesome place. Bravo!

My husband and I and our 2 boys aged 8 and 11 had an awesome time at this tiny museum while driving through North Carolina. We love to the $5 admission and there were 3 floors filled with interesting things. The top floor of history wasn't too exciting for the kids but we liked it and they loved the reptiles and the hands on activities downstairs. We had the whole museum to ourselves and it was an awesome day. I love finding little spots like this!
