Immokalee, Collier County's largest inland community, has long been linked with sprawling cattle ranches and a thriving agricultural economy. First occupied by the Calusa Indians and later by the Seminole, the area has seen a colorful mix of hunters, trappers, cowmen, missionaries and Indian traders since it was first settled in 1873. Early pioneers renamed the town "Immokalee" in 1897 after a Seminole word meaning "my home" or "his home."Originally home to cattleman Robert Roberts and his family, this 15-acre living history museum (the longest running ranch in South Florida) provides visitors with a rare opportunity to experience daily working life on a Southwest Florida pioneer homestead and citrus grove from the early 1900s. Exhibits, living history programs, and twenty carefully preserved original buildings and features tell the story of the cow hunters, ranchers and pioneer-spirited families who struggled to tame this vast wilderness prairie on the edge of the Big Cypress Swamp. The Immokalee Pioneer Museum at Roberts Ranch is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is located in downtown Immokalee, a scenic 44-mile drive east of Naples.

My wife and I drove into another world when we came through the inconspicuous front gate leading into the Immokalee State Farm Market. Music of Mexico filled the air and colorful stalls attracted our eyes. Busy vendors attended to customers. Trucks brought in loads of vegetables. We watched groups of workers empty and sort gaylords of eggplant and corn, casing and stacking most of the produce on ready to ship pallets. The remainder was made available for immediate sale. Only hours from picking we purchased high quality produce at very reasonable prices. The place is a photographer's paradise. Fun to capture by camera are well organized stalls that display and sell citrus, tomatoes, other vegetables and peppers of all temperatures and exotic fruits. Photos of the market and people at work are interesting and much different that images you'd find outside of the market gates.

Experienced local guide on a huge marshy lake with over a thousand gators & numerous bird sittings. A very fun ride with great guides

This is a basic refuge for wildlife, and some smart thoughtful people gave it life. No real visitor center with trinkets etc, but very little educational material or stories. I went to hopefully see a panther but found a lack of spirit among the local population as how to protect and nourish this endangered species. A must see to help support the refuge and see the wildness of the habitat of the Florida Panther
