Chippenham is a large historic market town in northwest Wiltshire, England. It lies 20 miles east of Bristol, 86 miles west of London and 4 miles west of The Cotswolds AONB. The town was established on a crossing of the River Avon and some form of settlement is believed to have existed there since before Roman times. It was a royal vill, and probably a royal hunting lodge, under Alfred the Great. The town continued to grow when Great Western Railway arrived in 1841; it is now a major commuter town.

If tonight is our last pub visit in months, it was well worth the trip to this amazing jewel in the crown (excuse the pun!). In the current climate, the atmosphere could have been somber, but there was a party feeling even though we all kept to our social distancing. The bar staff, B, created a fantastic night, suggesting local craft ales that delighted the palate. I was also informed that during the government shut down for pubs, takeaway beverages are available from 5 to 7 each evening. I will be back and hopefully this establishment will make it through the next few months. Five stars easily.

A very good cinema with a nice makeover done in recent years. Five screens, three on the ground floor and two on the first floor. Entrance fee very reasonable. Cinema food a bit expensive for what it was but good quality. The film was absolutely excellent and very comfortable especially at the back of the auditorium. The experience of attending the cinema was only let down a bit by the slightly chaotic way that the food vendor served our order. Overall though we will probably return.
