Vancouver Island's second-largest city is a picturesque oceanfront town with fabulous mountain views and a busy harbor. Home to events like the harbor's Bathtub Race, the city of 75,000 offers outdoor opportunities from full-moon kayaking to golfing. Boat-fresh seafood graces tables at an ever-increasing number of restaurants. This gateway to island adventures is easily reached by fast ferry or floatplane from downtown Vancouver or by scheduled ferries from Horseshoe Bay and Tsawwassen.

Sip and sliders it's a regular staple of ours but have to drive to the north end to satisfy the need. Thursday they are at Wolf Brewery. That burger went so well with the burgers. The staff actually invited us in even tho we were not going to have a drink. Well the wife twisted my arm. They have a great selection from ales to IPA's. Charming little place and extremely friendly. It is a little gem at the south end of town in Nanaimo. Give it a try.

Hooray! Nanaimo just got a fun new place for fans of great small-batch beer! We enjoyed a couple of pints of Plateau IPA and then shared a sampler with the Plaid Jacket Red Ale, the Luna Vanilla Porter (our fave), the Ultimate Smash Ale and the Daybreak Blonde Ale. They sell and fill growlers too. There's even a Mexican food truck outside so you can have a Tostada with your pint. Outstanding all on fronts.

We heard about White Sails from research prior to our visit and from a local waitress the night before. White Sails did not disappoint. Love the ambience and the beer! We purchased some beer to take back to Vancouver, and were craving it so much we returned for one last tasting and purchase two days later before the ferry ride! The Bastion Blond Ale is my fave (a close second Is the collaboration with Regard coffee). Wish you were in Vancouver!
