I went there first in the morning after leaving from Sur. The road is easy to find (use maps.me) and gets exciting the more you drive into the valley. At some point I would strongly recommend a 4WD car, as it gets very steep and narrow and if the ground is wet you cannot continue with a standard car. You need some good nerves sometime, don't give up! You will end in a small village where children play around and offer you guidance to the pools. Basically you walk down to through hundreds of terraces where they plant all sort of stuff (also bananas) and will then find very big rocks with great blue watered pools in between. I was alone there and could enjoy swimming and making pictures. The water is not too cold, around 22° (in December).

Using a tour guide, his 4x4 took us to the top of the winding dirt roads, crevices, boulders, streams, goats, to the vistas of this picture you see above, to the top of the world in Oman....a must see!

Al Baleed Archeological site is UNESCO world heritage and is well worth a visit. Lovely ruins. It is a long walk round the site.
