With its 18th-century Spanish colonial architecture and laid-back local scene, San Jose del Cabo provides a low-key Baja Peninsula counterpart to fun-loving Cabo San Lucas 20 miles south. Scuba dive and kayak in Cabo Pulmo Marine Park, home to the Sea of Cortez's only hard coral reef and the wreck of the fishing boat Colima. Visit the 200 bird species that live in the tranquil San Jose's Estuary and Bird Sanctuary. Sunbathers will fall in love with Playa Palmilla, one of Mexico's best beaches.

A great beach to visit during your stay in either Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo. Not all the beaches in Los Cabos are swimmable, but Costa Azul is a great area for surfing and relaxing. Some good food in the area as well will have me coming back to this section during future trips. Well worth the visit. If you don't want to park on the dirt/beach area with your rental car, check out the small lot at Zippers Bar and Grill. Enjoy

This is a beautiful beach. One thing we were surprised at was the strong waves we saw on a semi-regular basis. Some of the waves were over 10 feet tall. This is not a great place for family swimming but you can certainly enjoy the view. There are vendors selling all sorts of hats, cover-ups, t-shirts and other souvenirs. There were people selling horseback rides along the surf as well. We saw several whales surfacing in the distance. Depending on when you come, the whales mate, feed and give birth in this region so you are likely to see some whales.
