With its plentiful beaches, dramatic mountains, and backdrop of samba and bossa nova rhythms, it's easy to fall in love with Rio de Janeiro. Made famous in song, Ipanema Beach is still the place to stroll, sunbathe, and be seen. The largest Art Deco statue in the world, Christ the Redeemer, beckons visitors to Corcovado Mountain. Rio’s annual Carnaval celebrations are bacchanalian extravaganzas of feasting, music, dance, and costumed revelry.

Schedule visits (Tue & Fri)
Seeing Vasco play and experiencing the electric atmosphere was another of my highlights in Rio. The crowd were buzzing with energy, with 90 minutes of chanting, singing and dancing in the stands. General admission are all standing areas, but you could sit if you really wanted. Get here over an hour before kickoff as there is a street party before every game with grilled meats and beers on sale. You can also buy drinks during the game which are expensive for local prices, but not bad considering that they are in the stadium.
