Bounded by the Karakoram and Himalayan mountains, Ladhak is the largest province in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The landscape of Ladhak, a high altitude desert, is defined by craggy, barren cliffs and plateaus. Ladhak is a favorite among adventure sports enthusiasts, offering unique adventures in trekking, mountaineering and white water rafting. While rafting options are available on both Indus and Zanskar rivers, the Zanskar course is more difficult and exciting. The trekking options range from short, day-long walks to visit monuments or monastic settlements to long, trans-mountain treks involving weeks of walking and camping in the wilderness. Ladhak celebrates a numbers of monastic festivals - annual events of the major monasteries primarily in winters. The month of September, hosts the Ladhak Festival, that gives a peek into the richness, depth and pageantry of Ladakh's centuries-old culture, traditions and folk heritage. One can witness the best samples of the region's performing arts, Archery contests and the Ladhak Polo Cup.

Get ready for an experience of Ladakh’s ancient heritage and local life as we take you to the most ancient monastery of Ladakh and the homestay of a beautiful homestay village. After seeing a beautiful river confluence, we turn left from the Nation Highway-1 and enter the cluster of villages known for their art, heritage, and authenticity. Hi team, thank you very much for arranging the excellent trip. It was definitely a memorable trip for us, we love to travel again in the near future. Jimi was wonderful driver and escort during the trip.
Atitsey Monastery, in the region of Lamayuru, is a place whose roots of spirituality goes back to the days of Naropa, the Indian Buddhist Mahasiddha. Naropa was also a contemporary of Atiśa, the Tibetan Buddhist Mahasiddha. The sense of spirituality since back then has been continued till today. On this journey to Atitsey Monastery, we will stopover at a beautiful spot of the river confluence. The confluence shows the clear distinguishing colors of Indus and Zanskar Rivers. Unlike other monasteries, this site has a collection of unique artifacts. The day will be well spent traveling through beautiful landscapes, visiting and exploring the unique heritage. The experience would be entirely complete with a Ladakhi meal in the authentic Ladakhi setup. The monastery has recently been electrified by Global Himalayan Expedition using solar micro-grids. The infrastructure has helped the local monks to spend more time in monastery for religious practices.

I am very glad I took the chance and booked this trip. Sumda Chung is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. A small, very old monastery, tucked away in the remote mountains, everything was covered in snow and ice when I visited, but the skies were clear and sunny and the atmosphere completely still and pure. The journey there alone was worth it - past the frozen Zanskar and Indus rivers, surrounded by the most incredible mountain beauty. Mountain Homestays were also really organised and helpful. They replied quickly to all messages and made every effort to ensure everything ran smoothly. This isn't always the case in Leh (!) so I'm very glad they were so kind and thoughtful. They are also a social enterprise, so the proceeds go towards improving conditions for rural families. All in all, I can completely recommend both this tour and Mountain Homestays. If I visit Leh again, then I will be sure to do more with them as they really stood out as being so helpful. Can't recommend it enough!
The monasteries around Leh span the entire spectrum, from the conspicuous to the obscure, the grand to the humble. Most are endowed with rich collections of relics, murals, Buddha statues and scriptures and all are set in incredibly scenic surrounds – day trips from Leh are rewarding for history buffs, spirituality seekers and picnickers alike.
Inclusions: English Speaking Guide, Hotel pickup and drop-off within Leh City limits, All necessary transportation to/from sightseeing spots, Entrance Fees
Exclusions: Lunch , Driver & Guide Tips, Any other expenses
