This is the only Belgian wine castle. The estate is beautifully maintained with manicured gardens, nice buildings and the lovely central castle in neo classical style. The estate can be entirely visited (guided tours - all common international languages possible) except the inside of the castle itself which is only for private use of the owners. The guides are well informed about every detail of this wine estate and the process of wine making and share this information in a for everyone understandable way. You learn why the surroundings are an ideal terroir for the wines they produce and why they produce that sort of wines. As well the historic cellars as the newly build cellars with lots of oak barrels are impressive. The wine tasting at the end is highly recommended, and yes the wine is excellent and worthwhile to buy a couple of boxes to take home. Don't forget to taste the distilled products and the bubbles they make too. Absolutely a super experience.

Silver Cross winery is the only Vineyard planted on former WW1 trenches. Located at the most Northern tip of the Ypres Salient, it was a 100 years ago a place of horror and devastation. Now it's peacefull and quiet and bringing a positive story. Look what wonderfull products can be made here. Concentrating on the production of Sparkling wines, it is no surprise that most grape varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Meunier. Filip, the winemaker, also makes a fabulous licquor: The Wipers Time. Learn all there is to know about growing wine, visit the winery and see for yourselves how methode traditionnelle sparkling wines are made. And no visit would be complete without a tasting of these wonderfull products. To discover with friends, a unique adventure. Guided tours are only on appointment, on the date and time of your choice. Snapshot visits/tastings are free on Saturdays from 13h30 to 17h..
We were a group of seven, celebrating a special birthday buying beer & lunching at the Westvletern abbey, and stopped at this winery in the afternoon to extend our adventure. What an absolute treat! Filip was a wonderful host and gave us a great tour of his property. We were “ up close and personal” because the grounds are small, and were treated more like friends than customers. We had an amazing & generous wine tasting, heard lots of stories, absorbed some local history, and were able to purchase reasonably priced, unusual, & delicious wines. This was a unique place and I am so glad we visited. Thank you Fillip!
