This was absolutely the best wine tour we have ever taken! The selection of wineries (family, estate, and 15th century) was perfect, and we learned so much about the winemaking process in the region. Our guide, Jose Maria, was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all our questions. He even made a picnic lunch for us in his home. Rebeca, of Rioja Like a Native Wine tour, was extremely helpful and customized the trip just for us. A remarkable experience, and one we highly recommend!

Juanjo took us on an amazing tour of the Albariño wine region. He took us to four vineyards that were unique and each made Albariño in a slightly different way. They were not commercial wineries and each one had an owner/winemaker whose passion for making Albariño shown through in their product. Juanjo took care and effort in selecting these places and really made the tour special. He has extensive knowledge of the region and was an excellent guide. For lunch, he offered us several options and we went with a local restaurant in a seaside town that had excellent seafood and was a good break in between wine tastings. The Pulpa a feira was delicious. I highly recommend Juanjo for a fantastic experience in Albariño wine country

After making an appointment the day before, we were received today by Noemi. A very friendly and knowledgeable guide. Actually we never had a winery visit like this, very personal, very informative and presented with passion and pride. Starting with a rosé, we went through the whole winery and tasted two probes from different barrels. Very interesting. Then we finished off with tasting a selection of three wines with a delicious pairing of Spanish dishes, in fact a complete lunch. When you are in the Ribera del Duero area, this is a “must visit”.

His secrets remained hidden during the 30 years in which he remained closed, with the legacy built since its opening in 1881 hidden in everyone's eyes. A thorough restoration has made it possible that this nineteenth-century winery, in which wine was traditionally made through carbonic maceration, resurfaces in the present.

Inclusions: Tasting of 2 wines and olive oils is included. Some snacks are also included.

Jose is the perfect host and his wine tour of the Rioja Valley was exceptional. His knowledge of the wine industry in Northern Spain was extensive and very interesting to learn about, particularly the very small family plots that are dotted throughout the region. The highlight of the tour without doubt however was the visit to his own wine cave, La Bodega del Tesoro. Here we tasted his wines in conjunction with a truly special local lunch prepared by Jose, including jamon, home grown tomatoes and potato and chorizo soup made by his wife that morning. Little lamb cutlets and fresh chorizo grilled over the open fire (lit with vine cuttings) topped of a truly perfect day . The vision Jose has realised by restoring this original old barrel room and wine cave across the road is indeed momentous. Gracias Jose. We wish you well for all your future ventures. Penny and Roger.

During this experience we will visit two unique ecological wineries with their own vineyards, wine-making facilities and maturation chambers. The first is a complex of historical buildings built and restored between the 15th and 18th centuries in a secluded countryside area amidst some 140 hectares of vines. The second winery has a rustic setting and features a tour of 17th century 12 metre deep subterranean passages where the wine matures in oak barrels. Guests have the opportunity to walk among the vines and learn in detail how grapes are grown and harvested, how the wines are made and what makes the terroir and produce of this region unique. Our experience is very personal and groups are very small (maximum of 6 guests) and the emphasis is at all times in immersing guests in the authentic local traditions and providing an insight not only into the history of the region but a glimpse of the lives of the local people committed to viniculture in this ancient land of wine elaboration.

Inclusions: Tutored tastings of the ecological wines produced at both vineyards we visit is included and local wine is also served with lunch, A three-course traditional Castilian lunch is served during the tour, typically including charcoal-grilled pork, steak or chicken, or fish paired with white wine followed by dessert and tea or coffee, A selection of artisan cheese and cured ham is served during the wine-tasting sessions, Mineral water is provided for each guest during the journey to the vineyards, Air-conditioned vehicle, All Fees and Taxes

As someone who has lived most of my life in California, I have visited many wineries but I had one of the best experiences on this tour with Fred (aka Don Federico) and Maria Jose. It was a well planned tour in a very comfortable car with visits to two small villages, vineyards and a winery. Fred told us a great deal about the history of the area and the grapes of Sierra de Francia. Maria Jose chose a wonderful restaurant with great local food. When I am in Salamanca in the future, I would like to take another tour with them.

This is a unique opportunity to experience the authentic artisan terrace-vineyard terroir of the Sierra de Salamanca wine appellation, spending quality time in among the vines accompanied by experts who will explain everything you'd like to know and answer all your queries on what makes this ancient wine-making region and its grapes and vines so different from anywhere else in the world of wine. You will also have the opportunity to visit and explore some of the most charming and beautiful villages in Spain, whose remoteness has ensured the conservation of their medieval character dating back to the 11th century. The La Ruta de Don Frederico experience will, at a minimum, introduce you to young wine makers, pre-phylloxera 100 year plus vines, castle hotels, local innovators, family bodegas, and gastronomical delights. Frederick and Maria Jose will understand your preferences including food choices, knowledge of Castille-Leon, budget, energy level,/health, Spanish language skills, wine knowledge, and prior Spanish travel experiences. They are incredibly timely, responsive, and thoughtful. In our case, we had been in Portugal for two weeks before meeting with Frederick. He picked us up at the Madrid airport and eased us into a precise tour of Segovia. We opted to delve deep into the wines of the area and started with a local restaurant and four local wines. Frederick has a deep understanding of the Segovia architecture, politics, art, food, and local personalities. Later that evening we were introduced to the owner of a historic 15th century hotel in Topas. Our room was spectacular. We were treated to a solo tour of a Renaissance palace, the surrounding grounds, and a wine tasting of seven local wineries and a four-course meal. Early the next morning, we set off for Fariza, Mamoles, Formariz, Fermoselle, and Villar del Buey. We met talented wine makers/spouses, chefs, and families that have deep roots in the area stretching back many generations. All throughout the trip, Frederick took videos and photos capturing the magic. The third day we had a comprehensive tour of Salamanca. This Salamanca wasn’t the standard day tour bus tour you’d get from a Madrid operator. We were with locals/docents eating, drinking, and mingling with friendly folks. We purchased wines and spirits we cannot find in the United States and Frederick is helping us identify a distributor that can arrange for us to purchase some of Spain’s most amazing wines. The lodging and of the beaten track visits were lovely. We left Frederick and Maria with a detailed plan of our fourth day in Madrid. Frederick arranged for us to stay in an apartment/hotel and directed to traditional and non traditional sites to visit and eat at. He put together a twenty plus page writeup for the Madrid last leg. If we had a week in Madrid, we would have been set with his insights. Frederick was a former corporate executive who has a voracious appetite for life. If he lived in our area, he’d be a good friend. Maria is charming and a joy to be with. We enjoyed being with the trail blazers who Frederick and Maria Jose introduced us to in the Castille-Leon area. In the near future, we will be coming back, with friends, for a more extended tour of the area.

Territorio Luthier is enjoying the world of wine in a family winery where we decided long ago that making wine was not the only important thing, but knowing how to enjoy it and transmit it to those who want to enjoy it with us. We do not harvest large quantities of grapes, nor are we bound by the elaboration of specific categories. Just as a luthier patiently creates a musical instrument that delights the senses for many years, we make aging wines that can also be enjoyed over time. Our winery is located in a quiet place surrounded by nature. On the sunniest days we can enjoy the terrace, where the friendly forest dwellers sometimes come to visit us; roe deer, hares or foxes. Other days we enjoy the wine inside the winery, in our cozy tasting room. Live this experience with us and get a good taste in your mouth on your visit to the Ribera del Duero.

This Wine Tour was so much fun! In addition to a great time, our guide Ignacion told us so much history and other useful information about the area. As an added bonus, we were able to tour an olive oil facility and learned so much about olive oil production in Spain. Overall, I highly recommend this tour.

At first we thought that this seemed a bit expensive, but as it was a special occasion we decided to go all out, and I'm so glad that we did - it was definitely worth every penny. Giuseppe was our guide and he absolutely made the day for us. On the way in he talked about the the types of wines we were going to taste and their history and we all learned a lot that we didn't know before. The first place we visited was a family run winery which was very friendly and offered a personable tasting of their excellent wines with cheese. The second was much a much grander affair and again we learned a lot as we explored with a glass in hand. The lunch itself was absolutely delicious with enough options to please everybody, and you can pick a bottle to enjoy with it - which was a really nice touch. Originally I thought two wineries wouldn't be enough, but it was absolutely perfect. We tried so many lovely wines, with the help of recommendations from Giuseppe. It was the perfect mix between educational and really good fun. I'll definitely be going again (and requesting Giuseppe as my guide when I do so!)
