When you think “adventure travel” you probably think of far-flung places like Belize and Alaska—not Wisconsin. But if you’re an outdoor adventurer, you’ll find plenty of places to explore in Wisconsin. A vacation in Wisconsin can put you close to the Kettle Moraine State Forest, which has excellent biking trails. Or choose Wisconsin’s Apostle Islands—kayakers will love exploring Lake Superior’s many caves and shipwrecks.
Packers fans don’t wear those cheese-wedge hats for nothing! Foodies will love tasting as many of Wisconsin’s artisanal cheeses as possible. Either drive from cheesemaker to cheesemaker, or choose a Wisconsin vacation in a town with a good farmers’ market—then the cheesemakers bring their wares to you. And what goes better with artisanal cheese than craft beer? In Milwaukee, visit the Lakefront and Sprecher Breweries for tours and tastings.
Wisconsin Dells is a classic family vacation destination. A vacation in Wisconsin Dells will put you close to all the excitement—you’ll have to tear the kids away from the theme parks, wave pools and water parks in Wisconsin Dells!
Lake Geneva boasts clean beaches, golf, and a small-town feel that definitely appeals to city dwellers—it’s a popular getaway for residents of Chicago.

Such a beautiful place tucked into the forest! A mile to paradise. Not to bad of a hike if you really watch where you are going. Be alert as there are a lot of rocks and roots from trees sticking up on the trail. A few hills but if you’re in medium to good shape it won’t be a problem. Once you get to the falls it’s well worth it! So gorgeous!

Awesome waterfall!! You can walk behind it even! Shallow, so kids can play safely. Trail leads to st. Croix river, where there is a place to swim.

We stopped by Potato River Falls while passing through the area. I'm trying to visit a waterfall in all 50 states, so this knocked out Wisconsin. The waterfall is in an Iron County Park that also has primitive camping. A short trail from the parking area leads to overlooks for both waterfalls. The Upper Falls is a series of cascades. The entire thing is not visible from the overlook, but you can climb down to river level to see more of the Upper Falls as well as the brink of the lower. Another path from the parking leads to an overlook for the Lower Falls. You will have to wade the river to get to the base, it was kind of late when we visited so didn't cross. Overall, an awesome spot with two beautiful waterfalls and plenty of opportunities to play in the river.

This is a small falls in Wisconsin. Like many of the falls in this area of the state, the hike can be a little challenging in places (mostly roots in the path). The walk to the falls is well worth it. The falls are charming and the fresh air is invigorating. I do recommend that you wear appropriate footwear. This waterfall, like many in the area, is easy to find and located in a county park.

Clean park and clean it toilets. Plenty of parking, nice area for a family outing. 61 steps down to see the falls. Very pretty. $5 entry fee.

Strong falls in Goodman Park, one of Marinette county's interesting parks with a lovely waterfall which is divided by a huge rock. A bridge allows you to cross the river above the falls and walk around to the other side of the river where you can look across the river and see the face of the falls. If you have a telephoto lens you can get some beautiful pictures of the falls from there. I like these falls because the water has a kind of golden color to it, which I suspect comes from flowing through tamarac swamps. Fall is my favorite time to visit these falls because of the Fall colors. There are many other small waterfalls in Marinette County which are well worth visiting.

This is a beautiful waterfall with various areas to view it. If you just want to see the top side, there is an easy, short, flat trail to get to the security fence with a clear view of the largest portion. If you want to travel up stream by the dam and see the red, layered rock formations and more smaller falls, the trail is well marked, but be ready to climb around rocks and roots. It is worth the slight effort taken. There is also a steeper trail that takes you to the bottom of the falls for a completely different view point. The natural beauty here is worth the stop!
