Transylvania is a historical region in today's central Romania. Bound on the east and south by its natural borders, the Carpathian mountain range, historical Transylvania extended westward to the Apuseni Mountains. The term sometimes encompasses not only Transylvania proper, but also the historical regions of Crișana and Maramureș, and occasionally the Romanian part of Banat.

The waterfall is impressive, the access is a little bit difficult as there is no road. If you want to get there you need to take the train or walk from the village. The water is coming from Vadu Crisului Cave

We drive to the waterfall from Cluj through Huedin. The trip took approx 1.5 hours. The roads are excellent up to Huedin but from then on watch out for a few pot holes and oncoming traffic (the road narrows). The car park is 10 minutes walk from the waterfalls. The walk is an easy hike along a stream and trees covered in moss on one side and sheer cliffs on the other. A wooden platform allows you to cross the waterfall and take nice pictures. You can also walk a further 10 minutes and view the fall from the top but in the absence of a barrier you would need to watch young kids. A cross signifying someone who fell and died is a stark reminder. The falls were worth the 70km drive from Cluj especially if you stop at Huedin on the way home to see the gypsy palaces.

Hidden in the Anina Mountains, Bigar Waterfall is truly spectacular. Its shape and plant carpet conquers anyone. The beautiful pouring of water over the moss carpet is a unique natural phenomenon in the world. Having the shape of a cone, the waterfall is about 8 meters high and has as its source an underground water source that drains on a limestone wall. There you have the opportunity to descend on a wooden ladder at the base of the waterfall or to admire it from a height on a bridge over the river Nera. You can take photos from many angles and discover indescribable landscapes. This is my second visit and I can honestly say that it is worth seeing.

This waterfall is the highest in Romania so this is a must see. be careful to write on the GPS "telescaun Borsa" otherwise you will take a wrong road.
