High in the cool hills, this colonial gem of cobblestone streets and picturesque churches inspires artists with its color, character and light. Baroque, neoclassical and neogothic mix in the city's buildings, notably at the pink stone 18th-century church on the Plaza Principal. Founded in 1542, the city is a mix of Hispanic and Mesoamerican influences.

Vail, our guide was terrific. We learned a lot about the history of San Miguel, and enjoyed all the restaurants we visited. Highlights were the shrimp and jicama tacos and the churros. I have some mobility problems due to a total knee replacement I had a few months ago, and she changed the itinerary to accommodate me. They even picked us up at our hotel and brought us back! My husband and I were the only ones on the tour, so they went out of their way to customize the experience. One piece of advice: go hungry!

This was a great tour I would definitely recommend it if you are an art lover/collector visiting San Miguel de Allende. We were on a short trip over new year to this fabulous place, Arturo agreed to take us out on New Year’s Eve to visit four different artists. He collected us from our hotel and drove us out into several areas of the city to meet 2 painters and 2 sculptors in their homes or studios. Just visiting these different areas which you wouldn’t normally have access to was an experience in it self. Arturo spoke good English and gave us a background history into art in the city and of the artists we were meeting. I own an art gallery based in the UK and was really surprised how strong all four of these artists were. They had all spent years developing their own practice, techniques and it was fascinating hearing each artists talk about what inspired their work. We did purchase a couple of pieces and could easily have bought from any of the artists we visited. We will definitely be visiting some other of Arturo’s artist/galleries when we return to SMA.

We were disappointed in this tour, inasmuch as many of the places that were on the itinerary -- two museums and the national theater -- were closed. And they've been closed for a long time due to Covid. Our tour guide said, "we'll need to cut the tour short"...we suggested we visit a winery on the way back, but this came from us not him. The guide himself was knowledgeable about the history of the location, which is why this isn't a 2-star, but the owner, Jesus, should either have not booked us on the tour at all or at least informed us that after a one-hour+ drive many of the destinations would be unavailable.

The tourist route that visitors to the city will take with me is to visit the main points of the city, the iconic and most important places, but we also visit galleries, shops where they will be able to discover Sanmiguelense folklore and art. We make a small stop in a cafeteria where you can taste 100% organic chocolate, snow, typical sweets, jams, etc. for free. History, monuments, squares, art, painting, food, wines, restaurants, fashion, jewelry, etc. In addition to helping them find their way so that on the first day they can easily move around the City.

Marimar is the best! We visited San Miguel on a day trip from Guanajuato, so we had limited time in San Miguel. Marimar met us and took us on a truly lovely tour that covered all the places we wanted to see. Her English is fabulous, and her historical knowledge of the places we visited even more so. In addition to the usual spots we stopped for coffee in a most gorgeous setting, wow! And toured a chocolate shop that included chocolate mezcal, and chocolate cardamom ice cream. Marimar recommended the best terrace in town for the sunset; we wouldn’t have found it without her help! Our short time in San Miguel was absolutely magical thanks to Marimar!

There wasn’t a question he couldn’t answer. The food and places we went to was a great mix and I enjoyed each meal. I can highly recommend this tour

As I (Albert Coffee) guide you through this magical place, where I had the privilege of participating during the 2004 excavation field season, I'll share what I have gleaned through personal hands-on experience and years of study about ancient Mesoamerica, the legends & wisdom of local people. I am a graduate of Louisiana State University and a federally licensed tour guide. This special tour includes years of documented legends, wisdom & memories of the elders of the ranch communities on and around the historic location. You will hear about each place and its cultural significance as you journey along the path the ancients took to reach the pyramid. I have taken over 20,000 people on tours since the site opened to the public in 2011. My passion is relating in an enjoyable way information that is just coming to light in an area recently investigated. I hope to see you soon. This is "a must do while you’re here…!" "An experience that can’t be missed." "Don’t get left behind."
