Explore lovely, compact Puerto Varas on foot, the best way to take in views of Osorno Volcano and the wooden colonial homes built by German immigrants in the early 1900s. Several are designated as national monuments. Located on the shores of Lago Llanquihue, Chile's second-largest lake, the village is the low-key antidote to the Lake District metropolis of Puerto Montt and serves as a jumping off point for fly-fishing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding and sea kayaking excursions.

Did this trip in February. To sum it up it consists of 11 hours in a minivan to visit three churches in Chiloe, none of them is interesting unless you are an academic interested in the technical details of wooden church building in the mid 19th century. However good the guides are (and our guide was excellent) this piece of Chile is not worth visiting. The drive to Castro in Chiloe island comprises a 70km motorway run to a ferry and then more than two hours driving along a scruffy, semi industrialised road with no redeeming features to Castro. On arrival the only logical question is "why bother". There are so many beautiful places in Chile I would suggest that people give this excursion a swerve and prevent the total waste of a day of their lives.

What a perfect tour! It was definitely a highlight. The boat ride on Lake Todos Los Santos was spectacular, as were the Petrohue Rapids....and everything in Vicente Perez Rosales National Park. You see the Osorno Volcano from many different vantage points. Loved every part of this tour.

Organising the Osorno climb was something I put away for over 2 months since I could not make up my mind. I consider myself as an experienced trekker, also on snow, but I’ve got almost no climbing experiences and just a few with walking on ropes or crampons. By the time I finally arrived in Puerto Varas, I thought it was too late. But when I saw it was still offered on booking platforms, I contaced Andes Sur and received an immediate positive feedback. The organisation was quickly done, thanks to George‘s super dedication to offer an amazing service & experience! The climb itself was getting thougher & steeper after every snowy meter and I was many times questioning myself why I had to do this. However, once we finally reached the top, I forgot it all while simply enjoying the views and the feeling of having gone over my physical and mental limits once again. I would like to thank George for the great last-minute organisation and taxi services and moreover Diego, the guide, for all the patience and the great security measures. Diego was highly attentive at all times, checking everything very seriously and he was super cautious while never loosing his good humour and positive attitude. Thank you both so much for making the best day of a 7-weeks trip around Chile & Patagonia possible!

In the morning we will pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Varas for our drive to the island of Chiloé, which includes a nice 30 minute ferry crossing during which we can observe sea lions and maybe dolphins. Once on the island, we continue south to the fishing village of Dalcahue. We will take our time to explore the beauties and culture of this beautiful small fishing village. You will learn a lot about how traditional life in Chiloe is and was during the last years. We continue our journey to Castro, the capital of Chiloe, to observe the traditional palafitos (houses built on stilts along the shore) and visit the majestic wooden church (an UNESCO World Heritage Site). We will stroll through town and stop at the crafts market featuring wood and woolen products from the region. In the late afternoon we will return to Puerto Varas driving along the eastern coastal road passing by several small fishing villages.
Inclusions: Professional Guide, Hotel Pick-Up and Drop-Off, Air-conditioned vehicle, Lunch

When I arrived in Santiago, I contacted the local tour operator because I was unable to do the tour on the day it was planned. I asked if it could be taken at a different time and they were able to accommodate. They were very nice but I believe I ended up with the basic tour. We were 6 in the van for the transfer but the small-group tour of the winery was with 22 other people. We did not get the cheese or the premium wine. We only got 3 tastings of "ordinary" wine. Our driver's english was quite basic but the guide at Concha y Toro was excellent. It was still a nice afternoon but not what I was expecting and, as I did not have the details of my purchased tour with me, I was unable to ask for anything more.

We will pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Varas and travel to Frutillar, a charming village on the bank of the huge Llanquihue Lake. The village is noted for the German influence on the architecture developed by the immigrants who arrived around 1853. Take a walk to visit some restored colonial houses and see the strong German influence on the architecture. Learn about the history of this picturesque town and the time of the first German settlers.and visit the open-air German museum.

Join us to explore the Osorno volcano. On the way, pass by typical wooden churches, Chilean farm houses and the town of Ensenada. Drive through a thick forest of mostly native Coigües to reach Chile’s oldest National Park. Visit the waterfalls of Petrohué and hike a short trail through native forests. We will get back to the car and drive on heading to the slopes of the Osorno Volcano where we will make a short hike over lava fields and enjoy the impressive view over the Lake Llanquihue.
