We wanted to experience as much as possible in the limited time we had in Nicaragua which is why we decided to book a tour with Vamos Travel Nicaragua. We wanted to see the country from a local’s perspective which is how we met Franklin, the owner of Vamos Travel Nicaragua Franklin does it all! From history, transportation, photography, and friend, it was so helpful to travel through Nicaragua with a local expert! Right away we knew we made the right decision.. It was a great feeling to have someone waiting for us at the Costa Rica / Nicaragua border. Vamos Travel Nicaragua crafts their tours to best experience the country's history, culture, and most importantly food. =) Our favorite experiences were volcano boarding, Masaya volcano and the León city tour. With more than 16 years of experience as a certified tour guide, Franklin is a walking encyclopedia of dates and did a great job of conveying the history and information in an engaging and interesting way! Vamos Travel Nicaragua is a master at customizing his tours to each of their customers. We told Franklin the things we wanted to see and he made sure that we were able to experience them. It was very helpful with our limited time to have his honest opinion on what was worth seeing and what we could skip. We really wish that we had time to explore the beautiful country of Nicaragua, but so thankful for our incredible experience with Vamos Travel Nicaragua!

We went volcano boarding on Cerro Negro.....it’s a pretty small volcano compared to others....we thought it would be easy. It. Was. Not The hike up was treacherous ( wear good sturdy hiking shoes ) and very hot ( until close to the top then extremely windy- which felt good but you really had to be careful and mindful of getting g blown off the trails !) Oh and we ( 3 Ladies in good shape ) could not carry the boards..we paid $1.00 each to the locals to take them up thank GOD. The sliding down was cool,...it is very much controlled by the way you sit and lean which made it not scary at all. It was a 2 minute slide down . We got videos which was cool,..but at the bottom you had to pick up your board and walk quite a ways in the sand to get to the truck that drives you back to the parking lot. The lagoon was so so,....the hike DOWN to that was equally as hard as the volcano . Just different terrain ( dirt, tree roots, rocks and sticks and stones ) it took forever to get down there ..the lagoon is beautiful but you really can’t swim in it. We tried.the bottom is very silty and it gets deep as soon as you walk in. We saw wild horses which was cool also....then the hike back up omg all 3 of us thought we were going to pass out. Very steep and slippery if shoes aren’t excellent for hiking. Long drive back to Leon where we then had to take the chicken bus back to las penitas. It was a very long day. Be prepared ,!
León has always been one of the most important cities of Nicaragua; it functioned several times as the capital city after the Independence from Spain. Nowadays this is the second largest province in Nicaragua housing the largest cathedral and one of the oldest universities in Central America. Leon Cathedral closes on Sundays. Ruben Dario Museum and Ortiz-Gurdian Foundation closed on Mondays. During this tour, we will be able to see an architecturally interesting center with many old, colonial houses, streets, monuments, and churches. Visiting León will also allow you to interact with some of the greatest cultural traditions and learn about the important events carry out through the year. We´ll also learn about its most famous former resident Rubén Dario, Father of Nicaraguan poetry and prince of the Spanish literature. León was the first capital in Nicaragua and it is the first capital of the revolution.

Leon was founded in 1524 by Spanish conquerors, but it had to be moved in 1610 about 30 miles west where is now our destination. Travel with me and you won’t get long boring history talks, but personal professional and dedicated service besides anecdotes and fascinating stories. 16 years working in a beautiful city and country, I am willing and happy to show you the best of this colonial town. Let's explore Leon and hear about 495 years and its evolution from colonial slavery to North American’s intervention, Sandinista revolution, Contra revolution and more, exploring our art gallery beside the largest Catedral in Central America declared a world heritage site. On the way back to the port we will detour to San Jacinto Mud pods viewing the mud pits of different sizes, depths, and colors. See nature's force in action as the mud bubbles and churns, spitting up geysers of steam. Now we are ready! Thank you very much.

The people at the BosaTour were amazing. We booked a special tour with pick up in Managua, visit Cerro Negro, and drop off in Popoyo. The team was super accommodating and top list of great photos to capture our adventure up the volcano. They even stopped on the side of the road for some fruit. I can’t recommend them enough.
-Experience Nicaragua´s youngest volcano. -Hike this black cone. -Walk around activate craters. -Feel the heat, smell the gases and enjoy the views. After a driving of one hour and a half, we will arrive in the feet of Cerro Negro Volcano, where after some instructions from your guide we will start the hiking. The hiking will be over a rocky trails, the black coverage of sands and ashes give the name to the volcano. Plants are rare in this ambience of sulfur smoke and the views from the highest points are wonderful. You will come to the rim of several craters before getting the summit where the pictures of your adventure can be taken. Returning to the bottom will be as challenging as the hiking to the top. After some rest after the hiking we will safely return to the main road. Finally after this adventure you will return on time to your ship in Corinto.

We contacted Luis ti arrange a tour from Puertas de Sol marina and began our adventure at 7am. We found Luis to be a brilliant guide with phenomenon knowledge and experience in the region. The tours were great and Luis was able to provide a narrative of all the sites. In addition he seems to know everyone such that we received personal service everywhere we went. While the highlight was tasting the 1987 Flor de Cana we'll also never forget the hilarious tour of the museum of legends and traditions. Luis' narrative was priceless!
