He ensured my safety and took me on several additional walks at the various huts where we stayed. We had fun and very interesting adventures. The rest of the team included a fantastic chef, Yona, who created spectacular dishes including a celebratory cake for us after finishing the climb. Annapurna Base Camp Treks combine so many different landscapes and bring you so close to the base of 7000 and 8000-meter peaks in few days. This trek carves its way up the narrow gorge of Modi Kola until you are surrounded by a high and glaciated wilderness at the base camp of Annapurna I, which is used by expeditions attempting the massive south face of Annapurna. Annapurna Base Camp Trek follows a stone stair pathway that leads you beyond terraced rice paddies and lush forests of rhododendron and bamboo, to find yourself in a high glacial basin surrounded by eleven of Nepal's major peaks . With the altitude at Annapurna Base Camp a little over 4000m, it is vital to acclimatize properly. Langtang valley trekking is a small and beautiful valley that lies just south of the Tibetan border. It is between the main Himalayan range to the north and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. Langtang Lirung (7246m) dominates the valley to the north; Gang Chhenpo (6388m) and Naya Kangri (5864m) lie to the south; and Dorge Lakpa (69866m) protects the east end of the valley. The area was designated Nepal's first Himalayan national park in 1971. This high and isolated region is inhabited by Tamangs whose religious practices, language and dress are much more similar to those of Tibet than to the traditions of their cousins in the Middle Hills. Langtang valley trekking offers an opportunity to explore villages, climb small peaks and visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. According to legend a lama following a runaway yak discovered the valley. Hence the name- lang is Tibetan for 'yak' and teng (more correctly dhang) means 'to follow'.

We left our city hotel in Kathmandu at 0400 local time and driven to a point up in the mountains where we were hoping to see the mountains at sunrise. Unfortunately as it is most time, the clouds prevent us viewing the mountains. The walk back downtime mountain to the valley below and back up the other side, we passed through many small villages. That was very rewarding. Having Harry accompany us the whole way made the trek that much more enjoyable
