10 Walking Tours in Guayaquil That You Shouldn't Miss

August 5, 2021 Velvet Mowry

Founded in the 1530s, Ecuador's largest city and main port is the top access point for Galapagos cruises and home to a bustling import-export business. Tourism is on the rise as well, thanks to a new international airport and urban renewal projects along the River Guayas promenade and in the historic neighborhood of Las Peñas. The 465-step climb to the top of Santa Ana Hill provides sweeping views and a chance to stand on the site of the city's birthplace.

This was a great way to see the city in air conditioned comfort. Our tour guide is a retired airline pilot with perfect English and a great deal of knowledge regarding the city. We opted for the breakfast/lunch tour. We toured spots outside of the usual “tourists traps”. Lunch was perfection! We ate local cuisine at a corner cafe and the owner explained each dish in great detail. Don’t leave Guayaquil without taking this tour.

I highly recommend this tour! It’s active but not strenuous, covers a lot, and Alex was friendly and knowledgeable throughout. It felt nice to have a blend of parks and the city, stopping along the way for photos, explanations and history, sweeping city views and gelato on a balcony.

Local guide with good English. Good factual information on main sites of interest. Had driver in private car, which, given the horrendous traffic gridlock and lack of parking in Quito old town, was essential! Felt rushed though, with request for coffee stop after 2 hours, dismissed.

I just completed the Guayaquil City Tour with Eduardo Meneses. ‘Eddie’ is a consummate tour guide equally versed in ecology and history. He is a good listener who fine tunes the tour to your interest. After touring with Eddie I began to understand the cultural and historical significance of the things I was seeing not just passing through. The City tour which is part transportation/part walking is evenly spaced out with opportunities for breaks and coffee. Eddie goes at your pace. As this was my first time in Guayaquil I couldn’t imagine learning about this City in a better way.
