10 Walking Tours in Dubrovnik That You Shouldn't Miss

February 25, 2022 Milan Banda

Dubrovnik has recovered from the war damage it suffered during the 1990s, and visitors have returned to this tranquil city. Nestled between the Adriatic and the Dinaric Alps, it’s an accessible and affordable city break for many European travelers. The pedestrian-only Old Town is especially charming.

Stroll the best-preserved medieval fortified city in the world with a local, born in the very heart of it. Get introduced to the major city sights, evoke the glorious past times of the Republic of Dubrovnik and, at the same time, experience the real heartbeat of less than 1000 locals that still live within the City Walls. This small place, known for its diplomacy, commerce and shipbuilding, was a well-organized city. Almost every aspect of the social life was regulated already in the 14th c. Water supplying and sewage system, health service and garbage disposal service were organized and regulated. At the same time, peek into the hidden corners, in narrow and steep streets, where you will discover a real life of a small community that still lives in the UNESCO site in ancient homes, struggling with stairs and crowds, coping with strict conserving regulations and demands of tourism, balancing between the history and modern life. The tour can be extended for a walk over the City Walls.

This is your perfect opportunity to visit locations in Dubrovnik that you’d certainly miss out on if you were strolling around by yourself. For two hours, we explore the scenes which became almost landmark here in Dubrovnik from seasons 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and now in season 8. Red Keep is one of the biggest highlights of our entire tour, there are some stairs leading us to the top, but once we get there, the view is one of the best in Dubrovnik. Afterwards, we explore the sights of the old town and we finish the tour with photos on the iron throne.

I would like to thank Marko for an entertaining tour of Walls of Dubrovnik. Me and my husband were lucky enough to have a private tour. Marko's tour was very engaging and filled with interesting history trivia. He pointed out details of Dubrovnik that we'd definitely missed without him. I would definitely recommend this tour to everyone because taking a walk on the walls was much more fun and memorable.

She sent a message through Trip Advisor the day before giving specific instructions of the location we were meeting and providing her phone number in case of being unable to find the place. She was very knowable of Croatia's History and gossip around the filming of "Game of Thrones." She was funny and Whitty, we enjoyed the tour a lot. Thank you, Jelena!

The tour includes an comprehensive cultural, architectural and historic overview of Dubrovnik and it's people. And if that hadn't been enough they email you afterwards with a list of other hidden gems to continue your own discovery of the city"s secret places. We got so much more for our money than I had ever hoped for. Thank you to our extremely knowledgeable and charming host Ana!
