People used to live in this scenic place since way back in time. The area is rich with cool, crystal clear water springs, which is a fundamental settling factor. The local history museum treasures coins dating back to II and III century AD, when the first local inhabitants, the Thracians, were living here under Roman government. One can also see a lot of preserved Thracian burial pottery and jewelery discovered through random excavation works. The ruins of a fortress found on a nearby hill called "Vida" also date back to the Roman era.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The red rocks are breathtaking and so is the fortress. You should also ask for my tour guide, Mariya. She is very warm-hearted and a wonderful person. I enjoyed this place more than the Eifel Tower, the Colosseum, or the Leaning Tower. It’s the most astonishing place in Europe, in my opinion.

Had a great guide, Bozh who made us feel safe and comfortable. He was also very informative. The train ride was indeed very scenic. However, it was far too long. A 3.5 hrs forward and another 3.5 hrs ride back totals up to 7 hrs on the train. There is also a total of 3 hrs return trip from the train station Septemvri to Sofia. So thats a total of abt 10 hrs ride. The village Yakoradu is indeed unique but it is way too small and there isnt much to be done there. But we did manage to find the mosque and then had an awesome lunch. If you dont mind the train ride, then its worth to go. We just thought they could cut short the ride to one of the nearer village instead of going all the way up. But then again, they may be restricted by the train schedule.
