Bardez is the name of a region and taluka in North Goa. The name is credited to the Brahmin immigrants who migrated to the Konkan via Magadha in Gangetic India from Āryāvarta, in the north-western part of the Indian sub-continent. Bardez or more properly Bara (twelve) desh (country) means "twelve countries" (or lands). The form "country" probably refers to clan territorial limits, or to the Brahmin comunidades, of which the twelve, in no particular order, are Aldona, Moira, Olaulim, Nachinola, Siolim, Anjuna, Candolim, Serula, Saligao, Sangolda, Assagao and Pomburpa

We were guided by Mario on the tour who was very curt and professional. He waited patiently as well as we were 5 minutes late. The introduction was really good and informational and as it progressed we came to know about a lot of new information. The walk was also a really nice one. It could have been a bit more engaging. Since we were just 2 folks, we had the whole walk to us but the experience was kind of stretchy a few times. Probably some kind of activity could have been introduced. We give it a 4/5. Thanks Anirban

Goa was a Portuguese colony for over four centuries during which there was a strong influence of culture, language, tradition and architecture. All over the state there are beautiful houses which have floor plans and features from what you would observe in Portugal. Most houses have been built with the skill force available locally. Hence each house is a beauty by itself. The walls have seen centuries worth of stories that have led to making it special for us in the current day. We are in the city of Chandrapur which also happens to be the Oldest known capital of Goa. Picture the days gone by where it had armies, fortifications, battles and flourishing trade. Right from the Bhojas to the Silaharas, Chandor was a thriving settlement due to the connectivity that the river Kushavati provided to the travelers. The village is famous for the legend of the Queens curse that was brought upon the village as a result of treachery of the warriors of the kingdom.

Excellent tour with Katienne, who made 2 hours fly by with anedoctes and historical facts about the quarter. I really found cute both the stop at the bakery and the fact that Make it Happen gives you the chance to send a postcard anywhere in the world, taking care of the shipping. Well done!

Wherever you go in the village and whoever you spoke to – you would hear only one thing – It is the most beautiful village in the world. Asking them, how many villages have you been to is not a valid question. They are simply in love with their village! There are some very interesting stories that we uncover in this trail - one of how a celebrated educationist was honoured with a statue in the center of the village square, The Sao Tome church built in 1596 CE on a plateau next to Mapusa river, The Bridges of Aldona and the Corjuem Fort. We're up and running, letting our love for food take us to Mapusa, and its busy Friday market. We go from Our Lady of Milagres Church, walk up to a Kunbi Sari shop, the Swiss Chapel and let the delicacies from our favorite spots tickle your taste buds. On the way we'll sample from a range of fruit and bakery baskets, chillies from Kashmir, palm jaggery, red parched rice, sun-cured chouricos, salts of Goa and around, take in the scenes and sounds and, literally, smell the coffee. Mapusa is unique in different ways, and the people have their own favourite places for every dish. We join Vikram Dessai, who has enjoyed these culinary delights, as he takes us around some of the most surprising locations and food journeys in his backyard. On this trail, we bond over food, listen to stories and take home memories!

A typical day in the village of Cansaulim is better than most. This quaint village in south Goa is unperturbed by the hustle and bustle of the city life. Just as life would go on several generations before, the people of this village are content with what they have without asking for more. As we open the doors of the traditional lifestyle of the people, we learn how far the world has evolved from how beautiful it would have been in the past. The discovery begins with the local Tinto (Market) where all the produce from the three villages are sold. Then we witness the large sized conventional machinery that are used to squeeze coconut oil in the purest form. The British have their mark in the making of the village transport system that still carry memories of the colonial past. Finally, the infamous mystery behind the three kings chapel and why it became popular as the most haunted place in Goa.
