Encompassing two of the Netherlands’ three largest cities (Rotterdam and The Hague), Zuid-Holland (South Holland) is also home to important towns like Leiden, Gouda and Delft. And many lovely smaller towns dot the gorgeous green landscape. Alphen aan den Rijn has several interesting attractions, including Dutch history theme park Archeon. Picturesque Kinderdijk, birthplace of the legend of the Cat and the Cradle, also has many windmills that together are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Enormous thanks to Martin at the Rotterdam Tourist Info office at Coolsingel (right near Beurs Metro). I had just a few hours in Rotterdam, and your introduction was EXCEPTIONAL. The Rotterdam Discovery exhibition in the lower level of your centre is a fascinating way to learn about the city, and the self-walking night tour recommended by Martin was the best immersion into this extraordinary city. Thanks for making this such a memorable trip. Rotterdam has definitely left an incredible impression on me. Travelling solo and taking the night water taxi to the Hotel New York was such a great experience. And, you made me brave to walk back to the city across the Erasmus Bridge in the evening. Loved the entire experience. Thanks for sharing your passion for Rotterdam. I've been the city many times, but I never experienced it in this way. When in Rotterdam, definitely make a visit to the Rotterdam Tourist Information at Coolsingel and start with the Rotterdam Discovery Exhibition.

Inspiratiecentrum Grevelingen is a new attraction on the Brouwersdam. You can: - climb on the 26 meter high observation tower; - see the beautiful pictures in the panoramashow; - enjoy a cup of coffee on the terrace; - acquainted with local specialties in our lunchroom 'Aan de Keukentafel'; - get inspired en informed about activities and attractions in and around the Grevelingenmeer, the Brouwersdam and the islands Goeree-Overflakkee and Schouwen-Duiveland; - and much more...
From the outside, this museum looks very incongruous with it's surroundings. However, when you get closer you can see the thatched wall coverings and observation tower. Inside there are interactive demonstrations about the areas wildlife, geography and construction of the barrages to protect the land from sea water. The staff were friendly and chatty, entry is free, and there is a café. Our visit lasted about an hour.

Part of the Biesbosch National Park, the Biesbosch De Elzen is a play forest intended for children from 6 to 12. Here they can climb trees (de elzen, the alders), sail rafts, play haide and seek and invent stories in the storytelling circle. Although a massive children's playground, there are scenic walks for adults (and dogs on a lead) where you can just lose yourself in the beauty and peace of nature.
