If you're headed to Iceland for the first time, I recommend that you visit the Tourist Office along the main pedestrian street in Reykjavik. The two ladies there were really helpful as we planned our stay. They explained the City Card which provided admission to a long list of museums and attractions, and included city-wide bus service as well. The card was a great deal. You can buy it covering various amounts of time such as 24 hours, 48 hours, etc. You can also buy the card on a Friday afternoon, but schedule it to go into effect on Saturday at 9am. Thanks to their suggestions, we bought the 24 hour City Card, and enjoyed our visits to the Settlement Center, National Museum, and photography exhibit near the Settlement Center. We also rode city buses around and enjoyed seeing the city from a locals' perspective. We had planned to go to one of the city's geothermal pools since those are included in the card, but we ran out of time. Make this Information Point your first stop. You'll get great advice that will help make your limited time in Reykjavik worthwhile.

After a week, spending in the south of Iceland I have spoken with some inlanders, who have told me about many fascinating places in the north. As I really love the nature of the North, used to live ten years in Scotland before and visited other Scandinavian countries as well, I have decided to find the solution, how to see those places, I have mentioned above, in some short, but reasonable period of time. The day I have come to Reykjavík, crossing the street fully adorned with souvenir shops, I had a glimpse of what I have been looking for ... Guided Tours Selection Store, called "What's On" I already had not so much time, so I have decided for one full day tour, which would include the most of the highlights of the North. (Akureyri, Lake Mývatn, Waterfalls - Goðafoss, Dessifoss, Selfoss ... Dimmuborgir area, Vatnajökull, Husavík and many more ...) and it all was "in one" offered in one day really valuable tour, called "Classic Diamond Circle" and it was definitely the best choice during my whole time of exploring Scandinavia! My wholehearted thanks I would like to address to the nice, friendly and profoundly experienced staff of What's On, the local adviser, who I have been dealing with, providing me so many useful informations with patient and polite manners toward the customers, at first ... Secondly then to the driver, the native from the North Iceland, having incredible knowledge of the area, its history and traditions and for the really interesting story-tellings during the entire journey! Worthy to be mentioned also is the quick and comfortable flight from Reykjavík's domestic airport to Akureyri, which takes approx. 35 min. I just could fully recommend this trip as well as the stay on in Iceland itself ... in such a beautiful and mysterious country and for myself I hope, that the time will come in the future and I will be able to go there again!
