This property is outstanding in terms of accommodation standard, facilities and food on offer. Some people say it is a little remote but for us this was one of its main attractions. Well away from the hustle and bustle of Naha yet close enough if you really wanted to make a day trip there or eat out in the evening. We didn’t! The hotel very kindly provided a great free pickup service to and from Naha airport which was much appreciated. From the moment we arrived we were treated as valued customers by the wonderful staff. We stayed in one of the villas for two people with its own pool and separate sleeping quarters and lounge/kitchenette. It was huge and had everything you could possibly need. We enjoyed swimming in our own pool as well as in the beautiful outdoor pool in the grounds. I also went to Uza beach just outside the property to paddle in the clear lagoon at low tide. Just make sure you wear flip flops or water shoes to protect your feet from the sharp coral and other rocks. It is a great place to observe marine life. I also enjoyed two complimentary exercise sessions in the early morning- SUP yoga in the swimming pool and stretch and relaxation. This was despite that instructions were mainly in Japanese. The hotel is very convenient to enjoy walks to the nearby lighthouse and park area on the headland but go early as it becomes very hot later in the day. We mostly ate in the fine dining restaurant where the chef and his team provided the most exquisitely presented and tasty food - a cross between French/Italian and Okinawan. On two occasions we sampled the in-room dining, which was like being served in the restaurant. We loved that so much of the food was locally sourced, including from their own organic farm just beside the hotel. We particularly enjoyed some of their seafood dishes in the evening such as the daily catch dish acqua pazza style but beware it is enormous. Their squid ink pasta and tiramisu okinawan style were also wonderful. Breakfasts provided a great spread and plenty of choice especially of fruit and Japanese dishes. Breads tended to be white and French style but if you get a chance sample the purple potato bread rolls and purple potato margarine - in fact anything made from the famous okinawan purple potatoes!! Although the accommodation is pricey, the food even in the fine dining restaurant, is very reasonably priced. Given the size of portions we often only chose to eat one course. This was because of the complimentary drinks and snacks on offer in the sunset lounge every evening which we took great pleasure in enjoying. We stayed 6 nights and by the time we left we felt we had acquired a new family. All staff were so welcoming, courteous and helpful- from the General Manager who spoke to us on a regular basis, to the cleaning staff. Particular mention must be made of Ashimine in Reception who welcomed us to the hotel and was very helpful on a number of occasions, not least, sorting out the timing of the cleaning of the room. In the restaurant Hiragana the restaurant manager could not do enough for us ensuring we always got the seat we wanted both at breakfast and in the evening. He explained the dishes to us and welcomed us every time as did the other staff such as Mazuda with real pleasure and bows. We also were privileged to meet the chef and his team who made a special point of coming out from the kitchen to show their appreciation of our custom. The girls in the Sunset lounge also did a great job. We were so sad to have to say goodbye to all the staff when we left. The fact that so many of them gathered to say goodbye and wave us off was testimony to the personal service they gave us. We cannot recommend this Relais and Chateau hotel enough and would love to return.

Coldio Pool & Villas Sumuide

We opened luxurious condominium with private pool on magnificent remote island reachable by car. Sumuide village on Yagaji island is a place where unspoilt landscape of Okinawa still left. Ancient beauty is here near the hotel, like a monument with engraved Okinawan poetry. This is a place located far away from city noises where you can experience moments of slow life.

Not worth it!

Reviewed By p911turbo

So, it was our first time going to Okinawa, Japan and we were so excited about it. After a long distance flight, we got our rental car at the airport, drove about 2 hours to get to Magachabaru (because of traffic, language barrier, speed limits, power of the car, unresponsive GPS, etc.). The drive was not easy but we still very much looked forward to the hotel stay. The hotel is in the North, in a middle of forest, and very far away from the Main Island. And if you check the room rate, it is by no means cheap. We paid over US$600 plus tax a night - a little more than what we usually spend at Ritz, MO, and FS of which we are lifetime members. We spent 3 nights there. It is the secludedness that drew us there. Its privacy and peace reminded us of our home and we needed them to ease our nostalgia. We had been traveling Asia since the end of May. When we got there, we were sweaty, exhausted, and hungry, and most importantly, we were hoping to be received with a warm welcome and maybe a tad of kindness. After we got off the car at about 1830, we were then led to the check in area. The silence during the short walk was awkward and unusual. We sat down and then the male manager Miyaki-san tendered some unknown fruit drinks to us. I thought that he would be so proud and eager to introduce us to their highly prized local tropical fruits. Instead, he stared at the booking print out left on the table and my child of elementary school age. That was the moment that started to get us nervous and uneasy. He then finally opened his mouth and said in a long face that our Expedia reservation indicated that we would be bringing along an infant - the third guest who would be staying with us in the room of over 1400 sqf. We were scratching our heads as we had no intentions to cheat as what implied in his statement, tone, facial expression and body language. We told him that we were not too sure about what he meant and happened. We explained to him that we entered the right age of our child into the Expedia system. We told him that we didn’t even know that there was a problem as we were not reached out prior to the stay for any clarifications (interestingly, they left a child robe and a pair of slippers good for an elementary school child in the room, definitely not for an infant). Then, instead of asking us for the passports, he had my love one complete the forms for him. Before taking us to the room, he told us (my child was tired and hungry) that there would be NO dinner for us (it was about 1849 when the check in process was over) that night because we failed to make any advanced reservations. Also, he said that there would be NO breakfast for us too the next morning because we just missed the daily breakfast reservation cut-off time (before 1800 everyday). We were beyond stunned and there were no words to describe how bad the treatments were. He told my love one that they sent over an email about the hotel earlier. My love one told him that he didn’t receive anything electronically from the hotel. We were again bewildered because we thought that the hotel should try to reach out to the guests (there are only 11 villas in the premise) again if they didn’t hear anything (the ball is on your side, we already paid). After we settled in our room and got connected to the provided portable wi-fi (it didn’t work well at all), we checked and found that the email was in the spam folder. However, he snubbed us anyway by printing a copy for us. Later on that day, he got back to us saying that we were allowed to have breakfast at 0900 even though we did not inform them in time (well, we didn’t go sightseeing after we landed, we drove directly to the hotel and it took time). At one point during the check in process, he asked strangely as to how we were able to find the premise. We were confused again as to how and why such a question should have come up in that context. Later on, we found out during the breakfast that we were the ONLY non-Japanese family there. The breakfast costs US$30 each and requires a daily reservation before 1800. We called for a buggy before 0900 the next morning to take us to the breakfast place. The restaurant was boring and there was no menu on the table. We sat down and they gave us food. They assumed that since we were non-Japanese and therefore we should have continental breakfast. My child paid the same amount of money and had the same uninteresting meal. There were no morning greetings, refills of water or juice (not fresh pressed), or checking on us. The breakfast was mediocre. We decided not to eat there the next day not because of its high price but rather, we found the lack of substance and service intolerable. We were on vacation and it was supposed to be fun and we were beyond ready to splurge. As we observed, we were the only family who was served continental breakfast (even my child was able to point it out). Other Japanese visitors got to enjoy Japanese food which we had no problem with at all. The room was fine. They strangely pushed 2 queen-sized beds together without asking. The beds and pillows were not comfortable. They were so soft and gave no support. In terms of size, it reminded us of those Asian resort villas - spacious and full of bugs (they didn’t have the repellents ready in the room). Portable lights should have been provided near the pool (just like FS) for guests who want to take a swim at night. The water pressure was good and AC systems were strong. TV channels were limited and all in Japanese. Other staff members were fine - they did what they were supposed to be. We thought that it is totally fine if they have no intention to serve non-Japanese visitors. And yet, they are listed in all major travel sites - easy to find and reserve as long as you do not mind the pricey side of it. The stay was a memorable one but in a negative way. They didn’t understand or refuse to provide hospitality to non-Japanese guests. They assumed that non-Japanese were not able to understand and therefore respect their cultures. Showing kindness should be universal and across all cultures. It is a shame that you fail to represent your group. There was no thoughtfulness shown at all during our stay. We left the premise after 3 nights with questions and disagreements. Our vacation began after switching to Ritz.

A Bit of Hippcups Here and There But Overall It's fine

Do Take A Note of the following: -check in time is up until 19:00 only. if you are arriving outside this time, check with them first before you book it;they might not want to do it:this is a self catering therefore there are restrictions in a few areas. I was upset because I thought I was going to arrive after 19:00 ,the management said it would cancel my booking and this happened a day before I arrive; I already paid them in full what right do they have to cancel my appointment at such short notice ? I was very upset. -No toaster, mugs;they only have cups and saucers. No, coffee maker in any shape or form either. No iron and ironing board. Solutions though are to bring clothes that doesn't need ironing, and small items like mugs can be bought from 100¥ shop; Daiso, which was15 minutes drive away. Non stick frying pan where the non stick elements is, came away, so I would not suggest you use it. photo attached. -There is an office onsite but not to say there is a representative station there permanently ; the representative is only there when there is a check in , which you would have no idea when there will be people checking in. I was not given a number to contact should I need help. -No cleaning service during your stay ;my family was there for 6 nights;you got to change the sheets yourself if you want to, wash your own towels etc..nobody is coming in at all. But washing powders are included in your stay along with toiletries; bring your own tooth brushes though ; the ones being offered are for kids ; head of the tooth brushes are less than half of your thumb sizes. No cotton buds are offered too. -no drawers space for your smalls, e.g, socks etc --------------------------------------------------------------------- What I like: -there is washer and dryer which is much appreciate for longer stay with kids -There is Wifi but not too fast ;it's ok for small task like email, but streaming a movie you might have some difficulty at times. -quietness in the night but, in the morning, screaming kids and loud mouths parents could be heard. -privacy , cause nobody would ever come to disturb you. -little shops, restaurants, supermarket not far away;short drive. -------------------------------------------------------------------- what I don't like: -everything seems to be so low down, for example had to squat down for crockery -you got to pay extra for using BBQ in your own apartment -All the white goods have no English instruction. you got to try figure it out yourself via Google Translate or YouTube so that was a bother. -This accommodation does not use duvet cover; it would be a layer of bed sheet between you and the duvet. You could imagine at some point in the night all you have left is the sheet , duvet would be at the bottom of your bed. ___________________________________________ I would give it a 4 stars cause overall stay was nice although there were some hiccups here and there. Very spacious and clean accommodation. If you are travelling with young children do bring some toys ;there is a nice bigish room you could turn it into a playroom and safe. Toys could be bought at a ¥100 shop too , which is 15minutes drive away.

Isolation in Paradise

Reviewed By ESJ83

I spent a night in this wonderful resort with the wife and the only thing I regret is that I didn't stay longer. The resort provides a lot of privacy as there are only 3 cottages and a beautiful infinity overlooking the grand clear blue sea. The location can't get much better as its away from civilization but at the same time, offers all the nice luxuries of a modern resort. The cottages are spacious, contemporary with a very nice south east Asian flavor. The owner is friendly and speaks good English. There is also a private beach for guest. If I was to comment, the beach could be cleaned up a bit. Overall, I have to say a solid 4.5 out 5. Tip - Check in when there is light as the location is in a isolated location. Also the local yaki nku place is really nothing to rave about. I suggest cooking in as there is a nice kitchen provided in all cottages. Try shopping beforehand. The village doesn't offer much. Enjoy

Lovely place to relax

Reviewed By Kenichi H

We visited this villa in this September for one night. The reason we selected this hotel is that there are so many good reviews. Overall my choice was correct,I and my wife and my friends agreeed with me. I could not find any defects, however if I must mention one thing is that the jacuzzi our room was out of order(they shoul do make sure before we check in). Instead, they gave us one bottle of champagne. So I felt their good faith. We choosed BBQ for our dinner. Dinner was also nice and yummy. Next time we visit we want to select Shabushabu. Regarding room, there are two beds(one single and one sekidouble) in second floor, bathroom and bathtub is also on upper floor, and dinning table and sora are located in first floor as well as kitchen and TV. Drinks in the fridge are all free(no alcohol). Location of this villa is also ideal, very good for access to the beach, Sezoko island, Kouri island, aquarium, Nakijin castle and so on. Rental car is must!! If you are unable to make a decision, I recommend.
