The grand story of China features a great wall, a forbidden city, and a few thousand Terracotta warriors. Settings include the sci-fi skyline of Shanghai, the jutting peaks of Zhangjiajie, and the tropical beaches of Hainan, but the tale of this ancient kingdom began long ago.

The exclusive Banyan Tree Sanya, the first all pool villa resort in China, located at the serene Luhuitou Bay, on the southern coast of Sanya, Hainan Island. With 49 all pool villas set amidst a sculpted tropical lagoon on an expansive 20-hectare estate, the resort is designed as an oceanfront hideaway. It features a contemporary blend of oriental touches and lush tropical design. The resort comes with the awards-winning Banyan Tree Spa and Banyan Tree first hydrothermal complex in Asia. There are signature dining outlets, in-villa dining service and destination dining experience. All the facilities and atmosphere make it a total romantic getaway for wedding and honeymoon.
You pay for the privacy. Vilas with private swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Spacious. A lot of fine details inside the room. The food from the menu is also quite good. The surrounding hotel environmental is beautiful green! Lovely beachfront sunsets. On the minus side the breakfast canteen is really a canteen, gym gear is old, the beach front water is full of plastic things floating not advised for swimming. A bit too pricy just for the villa experience! This resort would need a refresh.

I booked a two-night stay at this guest house using an online travel site. It's in a good location, right near the MTR, stores, the harbor and popular sites. The check-in desk would have been difficult to find were it not for what I read in reviews. I entered the main Nathan Road entrance to Mirador Mansions, took one of the two skip-stop elevators to the 16th floor, turned left and found a unit with a large sign outside, listing the names of all the guesthouses it operates. I was buzzed in and the clerk promptly checked me in, taking just a copy of my passport and giving me a key to a room in a unit just down the corridor. Some have said the wait for the elevator can be long but the longest I waited was around two minutes. I used a keycard to access the unit and the metal key to enter the room. The suite had about five other units and a microwave and water cooler was located in the hall. The room was tiny, as expected, but clean, furnished with a twin bed, night stand, wall-mounted TV, mirror, hand dryer, fridge, window with air conditioning, phone and wifi that seemed to work OK. Bathroom was a shower stall with a toilet, small sink and a handheld shower on a hook on the wall. There was a small hot water heater activated by wall switch. There were four hooks on the wall. There were a good number of outlets, including a universal outlet on the hairdryer. All electricity required the key card to be inserted in a slot but any card could be used. I was given one monogrammed towel, one comforter and a small pillow. There was a glass, toothbrush and paste. The bathroom door didn't lock which was only a problem when taking a shower as the floor could get a little wet. The bathroom exhaust fan had no cover which isn't that safe, though not that big a deal. One day, I was given a towel that was a bit threadbare and had an obvious hole in it. These are minor issues. However, the biggest problem I encountered was checking out. When I left, there was no one at the checkout desk, no way to access the suite in which it was located to drop off my key and no instructions were given verbally or in written form as to how to handle this circumstance. Luckily, a man staying in that suite happened to be outside smoking, let me know and I simply left my key on the desk. If not, I likely would have just left the key on the bed but I prefer to check out the right way. All-in-all a positive experience and I'd definitely stay again.

This is a truly incredible hotel! The owners treat you as if you are one of their family. They went out of their way to accommodate our every need and and to make us feel relaxed and at home. When we checked in, the owner noticed that we were travelling with our infant daughter so upgraded us to a family suite. When checking out, we left the room in a bit of a rush and forgot a couple of items (including my wedding ring!!). The owner searched the room up and down for them and happily had them delivered to our next location. The food is excellent as well. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Our fourth trip to Sanya, and second stay at the Ocean Sonic - The Apartment sized three bedroom suite was more than enough for our family of 5. Clean and comfortable with all the amenities you would find with this size of resort. Buffet Breakfast was included, but it can get crowded, arrive early or just before closing. The hotel bar is small and not that inviting and a little over priced, but the local corner store sells beer and spirits, so you can have in your room or in a cooler on the beach. There is also an onsite pool with water slides, the kids loved it when they were sick of the beach or wanted a late afternoon dip. Adjacent to the pool were hot spring tubs that ranged from 28C to 40C and were great to soak your tired bones. Venturing out from the resort you can find any number or seafood and local cuisine (southern chinese) and the odd "western" or "italian" restaurant. Along the beach strip are more expensive than if you go in a few blocks. The hotel has a airport shuttle, but it is on a fixed schedule, so plan accordingly.

Overlooking magnificent Longsheng rice terraces, Li-An Lodge is a wood structure implementing Chinese building technique of tongue and groove without nails. The owner, Keren Su, renowned photographer, artist and adventurous world traveler, uses his impeccable artistic taste to design each room in a distinct theme featuring Chinese folk art and culture. There are guided hiking tours during the day and slide shows featuring Keren's photography at night. This is where Chinese tradition meets modern luxury.
The Li An Lodge was an amazing place, with by far the best location in town for viewing the rice terraces. Our host, Aaron, was extremely attentive and kind, guided us through the beautiful landscape, spoke very good English, played with our daughter and is even a very good cook! The wooden hotel has a cozy feel, and the rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated.

One of the best hotels in our experinece from location point of view. It is situated in Yalong Bay beach and hosts the biggest food street in the whole bay region with trading center. Main entrance is marvelous - imperial looking edifice in classic chinese design! We had a single room in a 5th town-house, very quiet and calm location with a window-view on garden. High ceiling room with a TV, lock-box, bathtub and traditional chinese design. Someone can feel confused with transparent door to lavatory... We lacked only balcony in the room - you couldn't open window because of insects (sometimes big ones). There was also no fridge in the rom, only in a common hall, but everyone could have an access in it - rather useless. Service is good, but not a single person from the hotel staff speack english or any other lang - be ready for pantomime and gesturing. Hotel restaurant is just best in calss with some asian bias, no more comments. Right behind the hotel there is a bus stop - you can go to Sanya city by public tranport for 7 CNY in 15 minutes. A few words about the beach - you have to cross the road and pass throuth shady street to get there, take a free towel from the hotel guy. But don't stay right here - you better turn right and walk a dozen of meters alongside to get more quiet and clean sand. All the beach beds are free of charge. We will definetly visit Huauy again!

This was our second time around visiting both Siguniang and this hostel. Location: 5 minutes walk from the busstation and entrance to Haizi valley as well as ticketoffice for Changping valley. Room: (last time a very cold twinroom) This time a dormroom with window towards the street, with shared toilet. Beds were comfy and clean, and all of them had a electric heating blanket. Bathroom had a chinesestyled toilet, shower was warm quickly and also some heating from the roof. The reception offers free green tea and sometimes public TV is offered for sportevents. Several maps of the valleys and you can buy noodles, drinks, some sweets for reasonable prising. It is possible to rent hikingequipment and the manager can book taxi and bus for you, as well as guides and tours. Restaurant:veggiesoup tasted nothing, tomato-egg as well as garlic-broccoli was really good! Chinesefriedrice was good as well. The yakbeef was good, but consisted mostly of onion and only some very small pieces of meat. Overall it is ok. Manager/owner Xiao: speaks english very well, is serviceminded and has a lot of knowledge about the area. We highly recommend this place if not for any other reason, then still for him. Fantastic!!
