The Hub-a friendly little place which provides both a cup of tea and a sandwich and excellent cheese, is also the centre now of TOURIST INFORMATION in the old market town of Retford in North Notts. It was opened due to the enthusiasm, hard work and attention to detail of Chris and his wife Louise, supported by a number of volunteers.Chris thought it was an ideal way to spend his retirement from his high-level computing network job. He is happy now to use a paintbrush or wrap your cheese of many varieties-some local-or make you a delicious sandwich.I hasten to add that he is not doing both at the same time! He keeps very stringent hygiene behaviour in the tiny kitchen. The Hub is the centre of arts information particularly in the town. It also provides a place for working artists and crafts people to come and be seen by the public in the upstairs rooms. This was a derelict shop. But it provided the ideal venue for the couple who have turned it round for the benefit of the community and visitors. When the County Council were faced with cuts by the government they had to make choices as to which services should go. Tourist information in Retford did not survive. But Chris knew that businesses in the town needed people to visit the area and keep alive their genuine interest in its local history. So they and a host of volunteers cleaned and painted and renovated the old shop to turn it into what it is today-an unbelievingly pleasant place to go and find out at first hand as well as from tourist literature what you can do in and around North Nottinghamshire. Sherwood Forest is nearby. The happy volunteers will do their best to help you enjoy your visit. The Meal Deals are the cheapest in the town at £2.50 in the tiny cafe. On pleasant days you can sit out on comfortable chairs with a little table and look across the road at the old Parish Church and the great Canon that stands ominously in place ever since it was dragged to the town by local soldiers from the battle of Sebastopol in the 19th century With the 400th centenary of the Pilgrim Fathers (and mothers!) due soon, there is an exhibition of the Mayflower Pilgrims suffering and move to what became the United States You can have a costumed tour with children's activities and also get to know the links to 3 places in the vicinity-lovely villages-which you can visit that gave birth and sustenance to the Pilgrim Fathers before they left. The centre exists to promote local arts and has a well-lit gallery and an event space suitable for groups. Local artists take advantage of this facility and children have an arts club and classes on a regular basis Of course the great attraction for both visitors and locals are the delightful gifts and specialist local food that can be bought at inexpensive prices. You can find here in this non-profit making environment information about the many events and the arts in the town of Retford. This flexible events venue just outside of Nottingham City Center hosts a wide range of different pop-up events. These include regular late night street food markets, live music, fine food and craft fayres, cinema screenings and stand-up comedy. Look out for other one-off, special events throughout the year like beer festivals. With it's bohemian vibes, great atmosphere and industrial setting, The Garage is quickly becoming a must visit destination.

The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham is one of the UK's top entertainment venues. Our 10,000 seat Arena hosts the cream of live music, comedy, shows & sporting events in the Midlands.
I visited to see NIN concert. I had booked tickets through the box office and advised them I have a mobility impairment. I was greeted personally and guided to a fantastic area with a great view of the stage area. (There’s a really accessible loo nearby too so it’s possible to relax!). Food is not great and drinks really pricey, so plan ahead. We had a good night out, though. We’d definitely go to this venue again.

This is a brilliant venue. We have been here for several Christmas parties. The food, service, venue and disco are always excellent. I've also seen many concerts here including Alexander O'Neil and Heatwave. It is the perfect venue to see artists at close range, in a more intimate setting and be able to dance.

The visitors centre is open from 9.00 am till dusk every day. There are descriptive boards explaining the open field system and leaflets describing various walks round the area. In addition there are Ladies and Gents toilets that even have a shower in them.

Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre is your gateway into a stunning historical forest; home to the legendary outlaw Robin Hood and some incredible ancient giants, including Major Oak. In August this year, the doors opened on the brand-new centre in its new location on the edge of the woodland. The centre and forest are now managed and protected by the RSPB and partners, who took on the project when the old centre came to the end of its lifespan. Sherwood Forest is heavily protected (SSSI), and the location of the old centre and car park was detrimental to some of our ancient oaks. Because of this, a new home was found on the edge of Sherwood, away from the sensitive areas of the forest. Now we've opened, we'll be working to bring alive the legend of Robin Hood in a host of new and exciting ways, including regular events, walks, costumed guides, children’s trails and interpretation! Every time you visit Sherwood, you’re helping support and project this valuable forest for the future.
I read some poor reviews about Sherwood Forest before I took my family for a day out which I think are unfair. The parking is excellent and very easy to find, the new visitor centre is great, the little shops and cafe have some interesting finds, the staff are very professional and knowledgeable and the walk in the woods to the Major Oak is great fun with the kids. I would recommend you visit, next time I want to take a picnic and spend the whole day there.
