The moody, romantic Scottish Highlands start at Loch Lomond just north of Glasgow. Comprising a slew of mountain ranges, this sparsely populated land is best seen by train on the West Highland Line. Mountains, lochs, bright heather and rhododendrons give way to white sand beaches and rugged coves as the train nears Mallaig. For a more active take on the region, hike the West Highland Way or visit the Trossachs National Park. Ben Nevis, a popular climbing spot, looms over the town of Fort William.

Inverness - Thurso/ Wick. Venture north from Inverness, tracing the North Sea coast past distilleries, salmon rivers and golf courses to Thurso and the once-mighty fishing port of Wick. Take the train to the far north and you begin to see how wild and remote Scotland can be. The peat bog stretches for miles, and the train stops at the most unlikely stations on its way to the country’s northernmost train station, Thurso. You’ll see the vast expanse of the Flow Country, one of the RSPB’s prize peat habitats – and cross the finest salmon fishing rivers in Scotland. And then, of course, there’s the short hop by bus to John O’Groats, the most northerly inhabited point on the mainland. If that’s not quite north enough for you, get the train to Thurso and the ferry to Orkney from nearby Scrabster.

The Skye Ferry closed for 2020.
This is the perfect Zen experience! Anticipation as you watch the small ferry making its crab-like way through the fast currents in the Sound of Sleat. Take photos as she twirls into the slipway at Glenelg, turntable at the ready. She can load up to 6 cars including 12 passengers then quickly off for the ten minute journey to Skye across the waters . The ferry has been refurbished recently by the enterprising community of Glenelg-Skye and gives great pleasure to tourists and an efficient service to commuters who would otherwise have a much longer drive to the bridge between mainland and Skye.

Are you visiting Inverness or Invergordon in the Scottish Highlands? I offer a customised tour for up to four people, going where you want to go, seeing the things you want to see and spending as much time in these places as you want. I am not like the tour buses which shove you on a coach going round at the pace of the slowest person. You control the tour - it's your day after all! If you are arriving at Invergordon on a cruise ship I can meet you outside the port and return you back at the gates or within the town centre for you to explorer the murials. Minimum tour duration is 3 or 4 hours depending where you are going. Why, I hear you ask? The attractions in the Scottish Highlands are quite wide apart and sometimes you may have an hour's drive to get there so please bear that in mind. Tours are charged in 2 categories, 1-4 passengers and 5-8 passengers*. Contact me for prices. I am happy to accept €uro and US$ (based on the Post Office's buy back rate on the day). Some suggested tours..... North=> Dornoch - Dunrobin Castle - Falls of Shin - Millionaire's Viewpoint ~ 4 to 5 hours South=> Cawdor Castle - Culloden Battlefield - Inverness Castle - Urquhart Castle - Loch Ness - Scenic return ~ 5 - 6 hours South=> Inverness Castle - Urquhart Castle - Loch Ness - Glen Affric - Loch Mullardoch Deer Park** - Scenic return ~ 5 - 6 hours NEW: Wet Wet Wet=> Falls of Shin - Rogie Falls - Corrieshallock Gorge - Plodda Falls - Home Falls - Dog Falls ~ 6 - 7 hours On all our tours there is a possibility of seeing widlife** such as dolphins, seals, deer, pine martens, badgers, foxes, buzzards, eagles, falcons, hawks and owls. Contact me to reserve your car. *If you have more than four passengers you can still contact me as I know other drivers with bigger cars. **Nature is a beautiful thing up here and many forms of wildlife can be seen on our tours but because everything is in their natural surroundings we cannot guarantee sightings.

Taxi tours available anywhere in the highlands visiting castles, distilleries, loch ness amazing scenery and wildlife. We have a four seater and 8 seater taxis available for hire at competitive rates, drivers have extensive experience and knowledge of the highlands of Scotland, also available for short fares i.e airport, hotels or a night out in the town.
From the US, I hired MCS Taxi to transport a lot of luggage, my dog, and me from Edinburgh to a village north of Inverness. Every step of the way was easy peasy and the service was outstanding. Chris took all the hassles out of making arrangements from thousands of miles away and paid attention to my concerns (dog! coming from the cargo hold of a plane! big luggage!). Driver Willie was outstanding. He arrived early to load us up, was an excellent driver, and found a lovely little park off the side of the road when we needed to stretch for a few minutes. Considering the distance and burden, the cost was quite reasonable. I recommend MCS Taxi highly and will use them again.
