We were staying up Buda hill by the castle, so sussed out that if we needed to go into the city for a days sightseeing, or to see anything not located on the hill, we would have lots of steps to negotiate. So every day of the holiday we bought a return ticket, which enabled us to get directly to the hop on hop off bus service, or walk across the bridge. It is quiet a short ride compaired to other funicular railways I've been on, but I think worth every penny (HUF). It takes you back to a bygone era, and also saves your legs after a hard days sightseeing/walking, when you don't really want to be walking up lots and lots of steps.
