Canberra Metro

Reviewed By allthingsclassy - Brisbane, Australia

The Metro or Light Rail as some call it was opened in April 19. It runs for 12kms to the City with 13 stops along the way. You can buy tickets on the station or use a card. It operates on a tap and go system. You tap on and off on the platform not the train. Ticket Inspectors do ride the train and do check tickets. There is Seniors discount available and day passes We were from Brisbane and were staying at the Canberra Rex Hotel. There was a tram stop across the road from the hotel called Ipima St. 2 stops and you were in the city centre, about a 5 minute ride.. The metro finishes at Alinga St. We used this tram/metro 7 times during our 5 day stay as there was culture festival on while we were there. Great way to get to the City without paying for parking.

We took the Skyrail cart up in the morning then back down to Cairns Central Station via the Scenic Railway Train in the afternoon. In this way, we maximized the time to visit Kuranda Village. We had the Diamond View Skyrail cart - looking down to see the treetop, looking around into the deep rainforest, looking far far away to the Great Barrier Reef, the experience was amazing, like the 3D movie Avatar.

The tram from Adelaide to Glenelg takes approximately 35 minutes. Glenelg (curiously is a palindrome) and Holdfast Bay is one of Adelaide`s premier beach suburbs and was the first British settlement in South Australia. Attractions include the local history museum in Mosely Square.........30+ minutes spent here will be very rewarding, the beach and jetty, a wide range of specialty shops along Jetty Road, plenty of eateries and pubs plus the opportunity to explore. Worth noting...........the tram is FREE at all times/all days from South Terrace through the Adelaide CBD to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre..........this provides easy access to a lot of other attractions.

Gorge Scenic Chairlift

The Gorge Scenic Chairlift has been operating since 1972 and has become one of Tasmania’s premier tourist attractions. Situated approximately 1.5km from the city centre, we offer spectacular views of the Cataract Gorge and Basin. With a total span of 457m, our chairlift boasts the longest single span of any chairlift in the world (308m). There are two terminal stations. The main drive station is at Basin Road, West Launceston, near the main carpark and entrance, and the other is in Cataract Gorge and Cliff Grounds reserve. The chairlift travels over the huge naturally formed basin, filled by the waters of the South Esk River, at times surging down through the Cataract Gorge. Your gentle, safe and breathtaking journey will provide you with stunning views of the majestic dolerite cliffs of the Cataract Gorge, which was described by William Collins, of the ship Lady Nelson, as “a scene of natural beauty, probably not surpassed in the world".
