Once one of ancient Greece’s most important cities, today Syracuse (Siracusa in Italian) is a lively town of about 125,000 on Sicily’s southeast coast. The city overflows with amazing remnants from its long history. Romans, Vandals and Normans are but a few of those who ruled here after the Greeks. In Syracuse’s harbor, Ortygia Island (also called Città Vecchia or Old City) is the site of many of the main attractions, including the seventh-century cathedral and the Fountain of Arethusa.

Incredible experience. Pasquale is a very nice and upbeat person. He took us to the best wineries. From the moment he picked us up it was clear that he had the entire day in perfect control. He is always professional and also fun. We really enjoyed the wine and food and the cellar tours. Pasquale even sent us several pictures from the day of fun that we had together. It was the highlight of our trip to Sicily. The communication was great - I asked Pasquale to arrange to have a cake for my girlfriend's birthday ... he made sure that at every destination there was a cake and everyone sang. He made me look like a hero! Thank you Pasquale!!!

During the market tour, it was great fun to learn particularly about certain spices and types of fish and cheeses not typically seen in the United States as well as how to use them. The cooking portion of the day would have been worth it just for the tips about how to make a tomato sauce that my friend and I will make great use of it in our own cooking. Teresa was a warm and gracious host as well as an excellent cook and patient teacher. The time we spent with her greatly added to our appreciation of Sicily and its local culture. Anyone who enjoys cooking should not miss this experience. It will definitely be a highlight of their trip that they will happily share with friends and family.

We had a wonderful time cooking with Teresa. She made us Sicilian spaghetti, an empanada with spinach, some sourdough bread, chocolate salami, and finished off with her special tiramisu. While we both struggled a bit with languages, the IPhones worked well. She was very knowledgeable about the markets in Ortigia and found us many snacks to try during our market tour. She can also cook wonderful fish dinners. Her stuffed squid I’d fun to prepare and even more scrumptious to eat! She welcomed us into her house but can also cook at your location if you have basic cooking tools and utensils. Don’t miss an opportunity to cook with Teresa. Grazie Letizia for taking me to all the best food places in Ortigia on this tour. I was grateful Letizia honoured the booking as my private guide as no one else had signed up that day. You will eat a ton of food and just getting to the front of the queue at Caseificio Borderi is worth the cost of the tour alone :) Don’t miss this tour!

With a couple of friends I made this tour. After a pleasent ride, with a coffee stop, we arrived at Villa Romana del Casale, where we admired the beautiful mosaïcs. In the neighborhood from the Villa, Giovanni arranged a nice lunch at a very good restaurant. After that we continued the journey to the Valle dei Templi, where we enjoyed the wonderful temples and a stunning sunset. Giovanni has an comfortable car, is an excellent driver, is enthusiastic, very kind and is doing his utmost to make you feel at ease. It was a marvelous day. Highly recommended!
