Sfakiá (Greek: Σφακιά) is a mountainous area in the southwestern part of the island of Crete, in the Chania regional unit. It is considered to be one of the few places in Greece that have never been fully occupied by foreign powers. With a 2011 census population of 1,889 inhabitants living on a land area of 467.589 km (180.537 sq mi), Sfakia is one of the largest and least densely populated municipalities on the island of Crete. The etymology of its name is disputed. According to the prevailing theory, it relates to its rugged terrain, deriving from the ancient Greek word σφαξ, meaning land chasm or gorge.

If you don’t wish to cross the whole of the gorge, you are able to follow an easier itinerary. For starters, you follow the same itinerary as the rest of the group until Ksyloskalo and you get to see the entrance to the gorge. You then return to the bus and continue to Sougia, where from you take the ferry to Agia Roumeli. After you reach Agia Roumeli you can walk for as long as you like, until the doors located 2 kilometers further in on the trail, after you have, of course, paid the 5€ entrance fee, or you can stay in Agia Roumeli, swim and later depart with the rest of the party, taking the same ferry back.
Inclusions: Local Guide, Air-conditioned vehicle
Exclusions: Boat: 10€ / children under 12 year old is 5€ , Entrance: 5€ children under 15 year old is free

Samaria gorge is a National Park with unique flora and fauna, in the heart of the Lefka Ori mountains. It is by far the best hike in Crete, and probably one of the best in Europe. It is listed as a protected UNESCO Biosphere reserve. Samaria gorge is a 16km downhill hike between mountains and a forest, with a river flowing and organized resting places! For an average hiker it takes 6 hours to cross it and there is no food or any other shop available inside. The tour starts early in the morning to take advantage of the shadow in the gorge until noon, but by which time most visitors have already reached the sea! At the end of the hike we rest at Agia Roumeli, a village with few restaurants and beach, before returning by boat to Sougia, and then by bus and car to Chania. It's necessary to wear at least good sports shoes, take a hat and sunscreen. There is plenty of drinkable water inside. The hike is breathtaking, ideal for nature lovers and wildlife watchers.

As you walk downhill, you will come across the church of St. Nikolas, built on the ruins of an ancient temple. Half way down the gorge lies the old village of Samaria; its few houses are now used by the park wardens. Quench your thirst with mountain water running from the gorge’s springs. Keep walking. At some point you will reach Pórtes (also called “Iron Gates”), the three narrowest passages of the gorge. The steep cliffs here tower as high as 500m above sea level. This route also goes past Venetian castles and ruins of prehistoric settlements as well as remnants of many other historical periods. As you are walking, you might feel as if someone else is watching you: the presence of the wild Cretan goats, known as “kri kri”, will definitely make this route particularly exciting!
Inclusions: Private transportation, Bottled water, Transport with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter air-conditioned luxury minibus, Experianced driver
Exclusions: food and drinks , Entrance fees to the Gorge (5 euro), Boat tickets from Aghia Roumeli to Chora Skafion (11 euro), Gratuities

The Imbros Gorge is located in the province of Sfakia and is the second-largest gorge in Crete after Samaria. The picturesque scenery, in combination with the low difficulty of traversing it, make the descent of Imbros ideal for families wanting to expose children to the beauty of nature. There you will have some free time to take pictures or have some breakfast before you begin your hike. In a leisurely pace, the gorge can be traversed in about 2.5 hours. Behind your group, there will always be a hiking escort to ensure everyone's safety and provide assistance if needed. The gorge ends at Komitades village, from where you will depart for Sfakia, one of the most traditional Cretan villages. There you will have around 3 hours to divide between swimming in the warm Mediterranean waters and enjoying a Cretan meal in one of the local taverns. Early in the evening you will board the bus back to your original pick up points.
