Visit of one of the most beautiful and cozy region of Italy: Abruzzo. Between the Adriatic Sea and the high mountain of the Apennines, Abruzzo offers to the visitor nice and charming villages such as Tagliacozzo and Ortona or towns like L'Aquila and Pescara. Many kilometers of sandy beaches joins the region to the north and south of Italy via Giulianova and Teramo. On the way back to Rome, excursion to the Gran Sasso, highest peak of the Appenines and Tivoli, the city of the refined villas with entrance included at Villa d'Este.

As a family of three, we were excited to go on the 7 day northern lakes and Dolomites tour - especially as it would be very difficult to visit these areas by ourselves (visiting from Australia and not confident driving/getting around to these areas). The tour started well, we were the only English speakers but we had been assured our guide would provide fluent English commentary. Perhaps we expected too much but there was very little information provided about where we were or where we were travelling through. In fact, the first three days we received very limited information in total while the Spanish speakers were provided with much more. We visited some stunning places but too much of the tour focused on lunch breaks and eating rather than seeing the sights. Halfway through the tour more English speakers joined the group bit we still had to seek information rather than being provided with it on some occasions. The bus was too big for navigating city streets and mountain switchbacks - the driver often had to reverse and try multiple times to get around corners and switchbacks. I felt very sorry for him - he did a marvelous job but it would have been so much easier for him and much more enjoyable for us if we weren't concerned about falling off the side of a mountain. The company can't seem to decide whether they are catering to small groups or large and this has a huge impact on the enjoyment of the tour. In Trento we were advised that we would have several hours and could visit the castle. After paying for admission and entering we were then advised that because it was raining some people didn't want to stay so we were cutting the visit short - this should never happen! We then had to get back on the bus only to stop at a truck stop for lunch (instead of staying in lovely Trento). There wasn't really any point to having the guide as he did not provide much "guiding" only very limited information and directions to places he thought we should go and eat. We would have done as well with just the driver. If you can navigate your way around the northern lakes and Dolomites by yourself then I recommend you do that. Otherwise, perhaps a different company would provide a better tour.

I'm food lover by nature and also a native of Abruzzo. As well as being an official Tour Leader recognised by the Abruzzo Region, I found Experience BellaVita, a company that promotes sustainable culinary experiences in the less touristic areas of Italy, in Abruzzo. They make the famous 'Pecorino Abruzzese' cheese, cow and THE BEST ricotta cheese, as well as producing their own Extra Virgin Olive Oil and cured meats. With the family recipes that were passed on generation after generation. I'm very honoured to welcome you to Giuseppe's Organic Farm and share with you our passion for the land, the animals and for keeping this family’s tradition alive, despite the pressure of the big industry players. I or my colleague Alberto will be guiding you through this true Italian experience within Giuseppe's family.

Marino was super-knowledgeable and experienced with the subject, it was a open and friendly vibe and questions were encouraged. I'll definitely recommend any of his lectures/tours to my foodie friends.

We had such a fantastic day with Alessio and his family. We arrived to espresso and local Italian cakes which were lovely. We were introduced to all of his family and they were all so kind and welcoming. We were then able to make a pasta sauce with his wife and then we created pasta from flour and egg - with Alessio and his wife explaining what to do and why every step of the way. We then let the pasta dough rest and Alessio took us on a tour of his farm which was amazing to see. We picked and ate fresh tomatoes and melons which tasted incredible! We then went on a tour of the local village and tried the most fantastic gelato! Upon returning to the farm we rolled and cut our pasta using traditional methods and cooked it before sitting down to a traditional Italian lunch with Alessio's whole family. After lunch we had more coffee and Alessio took us to see some local attractions we had been asking about earlier in the day. Alessio and his family really went above and beyond for us and we were made to feel so incredibly welcome. Alessio and his whole family are so passionate about their farm and their products. He gave us so much information and we really felt like we were experiencing 'the real Italy'. I honestly cannot recommend this day highly enough if you want an authentic experience with a lovely Italian family. We spent a week in Italy - including some days in Rome doing various excursions - but this was by far the best day we had during the whole holiday. Thank you so much and we will definitely return!
