Mt. Takao is the most popular climbing spot in the Kanto area, located about 50 kilometers west of the city center. It is a wonderful mountain, designated as Michelin three star spot along with Mt. Fuji in 2007, and it’s a national park where you can leisurely enjoy mountain hiking even on a day trip. The mountain has been especially important to Japanese since 744, when Emperor Shomu commanded the creation of Yakushiji, a famous temple, and thereby encouraged followers to come to the mountain. Known as one of Tokyo's best outlooks, the view from the observation deck is of a big panorama overlooking the Kanto Plain, with skyscrapers in the distance. Leave the hustle and bustle of the city for a rejuvinating day where you'll connect with nature in a spiritual setting.

Walk up a stream and discover a religious cave! Been to Mt.Takao before? You have not seen the real Mt.Takao until you have seen what is introduced on this tour. The trail on which your otomo tour guide will take you on this tour is the 6th trail which is intertwined with a stream. You will pass a cave which is said to have been created by a famous Japanese monk called Kobo Daishi and a waterfall where you can watch monks training, called the Biwa Waterfall. To get to the top, you must walk through a stream, over stepping stones, and also climb a steep set of wooden stairs. Once you get to the top, the views are spectacular. When the sky is clear, you can see all the way across to Tokyo Bay, where the stream that you just climbed ends up!

Exclusions: Transportation fee (for yourself and your guide), Entrance fee (for yourself), Lunch (for yourself and your guide), Other personal expenses, Private transportation
The flexibility to chose locations that suited our wants and abilities was great. Hiro San was very quick to put together an itinerary that accommodated a family with a stroller-baby (no monkey park due to long unpacked walking paths). Taking in the beautiful temples and view of the Kyoto from the west was breath taking and the guide was able to explain many things we as new Japanese learners could not read or know through cultural knowledge. Overall a great experience, a wonderful and lively guide, and some great memories.

This museum has the largest collection of Western art of any museum we have been to so far. The collection is very well balanced as far as major schools of art being represented across a historical timeline. It did seem as if not all the galleries were in use for this but it was still quite pleasant. It should not take more than two hours to view unless you opt for a coffee or light meal at the cafe. Be forewarned: get there early as they had run out of every menu item and cake by 2:00. Admission is very reasonable compared to city museums in downtown Tokyo. There is ample English signage. Parking is free in two lots up the hill from the entrance but again, plan ahead and arrive early to get a space right away or be prepared to wait.

A beautiful tour only an hour away from the center of Tokyo! Mt.Takao, with its easy access and beautiful natural environment, was rated three stars by the Michelin Guide as a great tourist destination in 2007. It is one of the two Japanese mountains that have a three-star reputation, the other being Mt.Fuji. With 3 million visitors each year, Mt.Takao is the most visited mountain in the world! This mountain is also famous for the mythological creature it worships; the Tengu. Mt.Takao is no taller than 599m, but on sunny days you can see across to Mt.Fuji, and enjoy the fantastic view of a sea of mountains. The route you will take on this tour is an easy one, partially involving a cable car ride, and is perfectly beginner-friendly!

Yoshi was a great tour guide. He tells a lot of stories and takes you to your desired places and then some. We went to the National Gardens, stopped to say hi to Hachiko, and went to the Chiku Chiku Cafe. The Hedgehogs were so cute! They're usually nocturnal and the one I was visiting, Butter, was really tired and wanted to sleep so I only took a couple pictures and let him rest the rest of the time :) Take care Yoshi! Hope you have more fun adventures
