The Roman City of Segóbriga was the capital of the mining district of Lapis Specularis (a variety of Plaster, which forms laminar glass). This mineral was used as a window pane and became a luxury item, until the laminated glass was developed and took its place. In that period, Segóbriga became one of the most prosperous and monumental cities of Roman Hispania (only seven cities in Hispania had Theater, Amphitheater and Circus). With the appearance of laminar glass and the end of the Lapis Specularis demand, Segóbriga's economy collapsed. Mines of Lapis Spacularis. This winery is one of the oldest in Valdepeñas. It is famed for the beautiful stone carved wine cellar with its huge clay vessels on which famous Spanish poets wrote their poems on.
