The tour guide was excellent and gave us space (and info when we asked). Reasonable prices and excellent communication. 5/5

We went on the food & wine walking tour of Funchal in December 2020 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Sofia is a fantastic storyteller and took us to all the best places in the city, including Madeira tasting at Blandy's; a walk around the markethall (go back on a market day - a fascinating experience in itself) and a stunning family-run biscuit place. A great way to discover the city and the tour was well-paced, with plenty of opportunities to sit down and chat to the other foodies on the tour too. I'm hugely grateful to Sofia for her excellent restaurant recommendations - it was my partner's birthday during our trip and with her insider advice we were able to celebrate in style with a big meal on the day.

Our second day out with Rui. After a drive through the hills we arrived at Quinta Santa Maria in Gidril, a village perched on the edge of a valley. We were greeted by our British expat host who guided us through the beautiful grounds and outbuildings of the Quinta tasting wines and enjoying nibbles along the way. The wines were flavourful, and the nibbles carefully chosen to enhance each we tasted. Before leaving we purchased a couple of bottles to savour at home, of course! Next stop of the day was The Monastery at Mafra. While this 400 room palace may once have housed a monastery, it was the biggest and most ornate of the several palaces we were able to visit during our time in Portugal- built with Brazilian gold and reputed to have emptied the treasury! Rui will do custom tours, as ell: For our third trip we have Rui taking us on a self-designed Templar Castle tour. We suggested three sites we wished to visit and he put together our itinerary ending with a boat ride to The island of Castelo Almourol. Bound to be another magical day!

We had the great pleasure of meeting Rui Martins in Lourinha, Portugal in March 2020. Our group of 4 hired his company, West Vagabond Tours twice for all day tours to Sintra, and then Fatima, Obidos, and Nazaré. Rui’s English is excellent, and his passion for his country and its people is clearly apparent every minute of the day. We particularly liked how he customized each trip to make sure we got the tour that we wanted. His knowledge of Portugal, its people, history, geography, climate, industry, and culture is exceptional. We truly all got to know him so well that we are happy to call him a friend. We will without question use West Vagabond next time we are in Portugal, and would not hesitate for 1 second to recommend Rui to anyone looking for tours in Lisbon, Sintra and central Portugal. Our trip to Portugal was cut short by the CV Pandemic and we had to find our way back to Lisbon to catch our revised flights home. It was a stressful time. Rui offered to drive the 4 of us down to Lisbon (about an hour) in his van, for the cost of 4 public transport bus tickets. (about €24 total). Knowing that we were concerned that our flights might not actually take place he told us to call him, and if we needed any assistance or to be picked up again that we should call him. It was an incredibly kind gesture at a time where it meant so much.

My wife and I booked a tour to Sintra with Vasco. He picked us up at our hotel and explained the history of Lisbon and Sintra along the way. Vasco was very flexible with what we wanted to see and even took us to LX factory and TimeOut food hall were we had lunch and beers. I would highly recommend the guys at Your Local Tours and would definitely book them again next time we visit Lisbon especially since I’ve read that the wine tour is top-notch.
