Anjuna is among the most famous beaches in India. Popularly known for its Hippie culture, most people's reasons for coming to Anjuna are the same as they were in the 1970s. On Wednesdays, the famous flea market of Anjuna, a major shopping hangout beside the beach, opens for business. Bathing is generally safer at Anjuna than at most of the other beaches. Taking long walks and watching sunsets are among the favorite pastimes of visitors at Anjuna. Anjuna has emerged as a destination for rave parties and that take place over here from time to time, especially around the Christmas-New Year full moon period.

Goa was a Portuguese colony for over four centuries during which there was a strong influence of culture, language, tradition and architecture. All over the state there are beautiful houses which have floor plans and features from what you would observe in Portugal. Most houses have been built with the skill force available locally. Hence each house is a beauty by itself. The walls have seen centuries worth of stories that have led to making it special for us in the current day. We are in the city of Chandrapur which also happens to be the Oldest known capital of Goa. Picture the days gone by where it had armies, fortifications, battles and flourishing trade. Right from the Bhojas to the Silaharas, Chandor was a thriving settlement due to the connectivity that the river Kushavati provided to the travelers. The village is famous for the legend of the Queens curse that was brought upon the village as a result of treachery of the warriors of the kingdom.

Gayatri and Sharmila were wonderful teachers and hosts for us at the Women’s Centre in Anjuna. We cooked all vegetarian food (the ladies were kind enough to suitably ensure the dishes were dairy free as well as I do not eat dairy). We cooked Sabji, Channa Roast, Dhal, Potato Bhaji, Puri and Chapati. We prepared the fresh and colourful ingredients sat on the floor together and cooked in the cosy kitchen of the centre. The two teachers were wonderful - they were helpful, answered all of our questions and were informative about how to prepare the ingredients and recipes. They were also very smiley and great company. After cooking we all sat outside and ate together. It was all so delicious. We have been making chapatis non stop since doing this course and are so happy to have learnt this skill. Project Tres is doing a wonderful job here. The course was fantastic and it was great to find a cooking course that is supporting the local community. I would highly recommend this course to anyone that is interesting in learning about Indian cooking and sharing the positive experience the Women’s Empowerment group are supporting.

We're up and running, letting our love for food take us to Mapusa, and its busy Friday market. We go from Our Lady of Milagres Church, walk up to a Kunbi Sari shop, the Swiss Chapel and let the delicacies from our favorite spots tickle your taste buds. On the way we'll sample from a range of fruit and bakery baskets, chillies from Kashmir, palm jaggery, red parched rice, sun-cured chouricos, salts of Goa and around, take in the scenes and sounds and, literally, smell the coffee. Mapusa is unique in different ways, and the people have their own favourite places for every dish. We join Vikram Dessai, who has enjoyed these culinary delights, as he takes us around some of the most surprising locations and food journeys in his backyard. On this trail, we bond over food, listen to stories and take home memories!

A typical day in the village of Cansaulim is better than most. This quaint village in south Goa is unperturbed by the hustle and bustle of the city life. Just as life would go on several generations before, the people of this village are content with what they have without asking for more. As we open the doors of the traditional lifestyle of the people, we learn how far the world has evolved from how beautiful it would have been in the past. The discovery begins with the local Tinto (Market) where all the produce from the three villages are sold. Then we witness the large sized conventional machinery that are used to squeeze coconut oil in the purest form. The British have their mark in the making of the village transport system that still carry memories of the colonial past. Finally, the infamous mystery behind the three kings chapel and why it became popular as the most haunted place in Goa.

Rachol Village Walk takes you on a beautiful journey in the village of Rachol, situated on the banks of river Zuari. The lush green fields and the beautiful monuments take your breath away. We explore the remains of what was a fortress in days gone by, and visit the Rachol Seminary , learning about this glorious monument and the people who developed it. We are then greeted with the smell of freshly baked bread, and discover the process behind this when we visit a local bakery. Stories about Our Lady Of Snows, the oldest church of South Goa, are also included in this visit. The walk is for tourists as well as locals.
