Taking in the breathtaking beauty of Nantou's Sun Moon Lake is truly an ethereal experience. The turquoise basin is shaped like the sun on the east side, a crescent moon on the west, and it reads like a rippling celestial journey. After a day of hiking the seven miles of trails in the lake's surrounding mountains, hop a cable car and whiz through the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village or take a soothing dip in one of the area's many hot springs. Local farms grow juicy drupe fruits, the perfect refreshment on a steamy day.

Bed & Breakfast
Think it is a bit overprice for a rather basic accommodation. Breakfast was also basic, typical Taiwanese porridge. Sliced bread was only other option. Staffs are helpful though. Rooms toilet and shower is not clean. Quite disgusting dirty grouts. Otherwise rooms are big and ok. Would have been nice if they provide dinner (more value) and dropoff at attractions (was charged NT200 for them to pick up us when there was no more public transport). Can definitely find better value accommodation in Cingjing with dinner and transport.

I booked a family room for 6 pax on 2nd floor. Once in the room, you will find a double bed with bathroom and balcony. Two double bed at higher floor with small and steep stairs, and small space for sitting and maybe for star gazing. The private balcony is facing mountains, so beautiful during sunrise. The morning fresh and cold air worth it all. The breakfast is super plain, only porridge, egg, begs and bread. Rooms are different based on floors, all floors without lift. The hotel itself is down a steep hill. Walk able to Little Sweden and 7Eleven but better to take car. The view in private balcony worth it all.

Stayed at this eclectic villa for two nights in early May. The rooms were exceptionally clean and equipped with modern fittings. The views from the balcony overlooking lush gardens and the mountains beyond were exceptional. The owners provided a delicious breakfast each morning and their infectious good will towards there guests was just outstanding. This place is a little treasure and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone venturing to the beautiful Sun Moon Lake area.

I stayed one night here at Kirin Villa and have mixed emotions about it. On the plus side, it is very affordable, the room was huge and comfortable, with great Wi-Fi, strong AC, and a nice hot water shower. So in that sense nothing to complain about. BUT... I had no idea how far from the center of Puli it is located -- a good 4 kilometers -- and there is NOTHING nearby the hotel in the neighboring village when it comes to food options, not even a 7-11. So it can feel quite isolated. When I arrived at 1:00 pm by taxi from the bus station (having arrived from Taichung HSR station), there was literally no one there to check people in. No one! It was like a ghost town. Very surreal! Nor was there any signage in English and I wasn't even sure the driver dropped me off at the right place. Eventually a young Chinese couple showed up on scooter also wanting to check in, but they didn't speak English either so we tried to communicate somewhat hilariously through translation apps. Finally a woman who seemed to work there agreed to check us in early, but credit cards are NOT accepted, so thankfully I had enough NT$ to pay for the night. In a stroke of luck, the young owner of the property, agreed to rent me his scooter (he runs a scooter repair shop in the center of Puli), so I had transportation to go in and out of town and do some exploring and grab a bite to eat. The next morning, there was a Chinese breakfast buffet included in the room price, but no Western options, so that was also a stretching experience for me. The only nearby attraction, which I walked to before I got the scooter is the very impressive Lingyan Monastery, at the top of the hill above the nearby village. Bottom line, this is a decent hotel option, but it's very isolated, and there is little English spoken. But still, somehow, it all worked out and was fine.

It is more like a Mingsu (not a villa to me) located above the mid level of Cingjing Mountain. The lady at the reception didn’t speak much though. Check-in was very swift. The entrance level is the restaurant that offered Yunnan cuisines. The rooms were located on level 2. Two levels only, served by a flight of stairs. We had to pull our luggage up the stairs, thankfully our driver as well as the staff from the Mingsu helped us. The rooms were dim, floors were timber-decked. Bathrooms were old-looking. Oh do be careful. Certain rooms have a step-up platform to the bed. This may not work for older people. So before you book, please specify clearly. Rooms have high ceilings though. Bathroom & room amenities were sufficient. During winter, we just opened our window slightly and the room was like 19 degrees! The bed had a heater! That was so helpful in the cold night! The walls were thin, we tried to be considerate & not to make much noise all the time. The hot water cooler is outside the rooms. We had our dinner here on our first night. It was delicious. We seek the help of the staff to order for us as we weren’t sure about their Yunnan cuisines. Most of the dishes were spicy but they could do without it. We were all satisfied! Good soups (tonic) & fresh vegetables that they planted at their garden. There is a 7-11 convenient store next to Sunshine Villa. It sells plenty of stuffs which we couldn’t find in other 7-11 anywhere in the rest of the places we went after this. Cars would stop here to get their necessities before moving off elsewhere. There is a tea shop, like a souvenir shop here. Their tea is tasteful, not those thick ones that land me sleepless for nights. I bought their sourcprunes to make prune tea. The teabags can be found in the rooms as well. The breakfast here was good. All healthy stuffs except their usual stew pork (minced) which goes very well with rice or porridge. My family & relatives had a good start of the day before we climbed He Huan Mountain! The view from the restaurant veranda was nice. The Mingsu has an organic garden/farm and the staff looked after the produce closely. My relatives didn’t mind going back for a stay come this winter:))It is more like a Mingsu (not a villa to me) located above the mid level of Cingjing Mountain. We got lost to find the property. Luckily the staff from the Cingjing farm help us out. She direct us to a small road going upwards next to the Cingjing area. The host is very friendly and gave us a lot of information eg. the activities in Cingjing farm etc. And we feel very welcome. Though there is a language barrier, he still try as much to communicate with us in English. Check in is only after 2pm. So you can spend your time to go to the Cingjing Farm first if you come too early. The room is super spacious and they provide the basic necessity, eg. towels, mineral water. You can get hot water outside the room, near to the seating area. Bed is comfortable, however only 1 of the bed got the electric heater. Nice scenery outside the balcony and also behind the property. You can even see the sunset. Breakfast is simple and sufficient for us. The host also help us to arrange trip to Hehuanshan to watch the sunrise. The price is very affordable. Overall, everything is good. Will recommend this place.

This is my 3rd time staying at Winlu minsu! The booking process was a breeze. Reserved a room over FB messenger, and there was no need for any deposit. We just needed to make cash payment during check-in. We stayed during the New Year period and the Christmas decor was still up (shown in pics). Owner shared that they'd do up their Lodge twice a year i.e. during Christmas and Chinese New Year. You could really feel the festive atmosphere up in the mountains! The minsu provided both breakfast and dinner. They serve porridge with dishes as well as bread toast with spreads for breakfast. As for dinner, they have a selection of mushroom, pork and beef hotpots. Imagine having a delicious hotpot in the cold weather up in the mountain - it's just yums! On a side note, I requested for an additional portion of breakfast porridge so that I could feed my infant for lunch. Not only did the owner acceded to my request, he gave me extra pork floss FOC so that the porridge wouldn't be too plain for my child. What a kind gesture. We wanted to visit Hehuanshan during our stay but unfortunately there wasn't available tour due to overwhelming demand as it was the a New Year public holiday. We visited the grassland and the minsu owner provided transport to and fro. Lastly and most importantly, the view is splendid. It's a great place for meditation, reflections and marveling of the wonderful creations. Within the minsu, you will also see a good variety of flowers:) Overall, definitely a place of recommendation!

Strong toilet stench in the room. Bathroom (shown in photos)- a Little too shabby for a price like this. I paid 2160NT for 1 night. It’s ok for just a night stay. But I will not recommend if you’re very particular . The power sockets are loose, it’s hard to support an adapter. Lights are pretty dim for my liking. The good- hot/cold water dispensers are easily accessible , they can be found outside the rooms. I definitely wouldn’t recommend.
