There’s an Arabic inscription that captures the essence of Granada in a few words: “There is nothing so sad as to be blind in Granada.” The perspicacity of this declaration becomes obvious as soon as you penetrate the austere walls of the Alhambra and take in the full majesty of the architecture, carvings and fountains of the Nasrid palaces. Your ticket (which should be bought well in advance following the instructions on the attraction’s website) also affords entry to the Renaissance Palace of Carlos V and to the exquisite gardens of the Generalife. If you are celebrating a special event, or are in the market for a splurge, you can stay in the lovely Parador, right on site. Make your way down into the city via the atmospheric old quarter of the Albaicin, with its tiny craft shops and restaurants, and head for the Cathedral and Royal Chapel. Also plan a visit to the crypt for the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, the instigators of Spain’s imperial adventures to the New World and beyond. It’s worth making the short journey out of town to visit the Monasterio Cartuja, a fabulous Carthusian monastery in the baroque style. Admirers of the poet Lorca should make the effort to visit the Casa-Museo Federico Garcia Lorca in Fuente Vaqueros, about 11 miles from the city centre.

As much a restaurant with rooms as a hotel - just four spacious rooms on each of two floors, above and below the bar / restaurant level. We were lucky to be at the top (although unlucky to hit cool, damp weather), with a large terrace with wonderful view of the castle (floodlit at night), some small-scale farming, and the coast. A spacious, comfortable room, although needing a little attention so some wear and tear. Dinner, on a good-value half-pension package, was excellent, with a lively atmosphere in the restaurant with its open-plan kitchen. Good breakfast too, with exceptionally friendly service. 20 minutes walk down to the beach strip of Salobrena, and no noise nuisance from the main road at the back of the hotel.

Fabulous little apartment. Friendly and efficient reception from Emilia. It really is pretty central too, as once we’d arrived, the car remained in the underground car park and we walked everywhere. The bedroom is quiet, the bed is very comfortable, there is fast Wi-Fi and the mini kitchen is well equipped. Efficient air conditioning too. We’d definitely recommend this place.

We had mixed weather during our short stay in Alhama, but the old town is charming and this boutique hotel with only a few rooms is fantastic. Well maintained, warm and comfortable in a great location overlooking the amazing gorge. The lady who checked us in and out spoke very little English but she's lovely and we managed perfectly well. Out of season the town is limited for eating out so bear that in mind when travelling. Some great walks to be had around the village and the gorge area. Enjoy!

Yair is an excellent yoga instructor. He explained all the poses very clearly and patiently. He also talked a lot about yoga ethos and philosophy. The place is quite small so the yoga classes will always be small with plenty of time to focus on each individual. The location is amazing. If you are looking for a beautiful mountain retreat, this couldn't be much better. The small town of Lanjaron is a 30 minute walk and has bars restaurants and a few souvenir shops. Meals were very pleasant and healthy. There is an abundance of fruit and vegetables - excellent if you're looking for a "detox". The meals are vegetarian, but actually Ziza only uses a very small amount of cheese or dairy products and there is also no wheat or bread. The meals could be more substantial - the evening meals comprised entirely of a light vegetable soup, salad and rice cakes. There wasn't much protein or carbohydrate so for younger, hungrier people this might be difficult. You eat with other guests, at specific times, in Yair and Ziza's kitchen or on the terrace just outside their house, so you feel very welcome and a part of their home. They are both very interesting company. There are just two yurts and a small house with two rooms available for guests, which means that you might well be on your own. This means the yoga classes are small and can focus on the individuals but some people may miss extra company. If you book the big yurt be aware that the equipment for the yoga – and often the classes themselves - are also there, so you lose a bit of privacy. The accommodation is very basic and may take getting used to if you appreciate creature comforts. The beds are creaky and furnishings a little tired. We went in October and stayed in the yurts and found it quite cold. We had sufficient blankets and a gas heater but if you're used to central heating, its difficult to get used to. The shower and toilet are outdoors and very basic, and the hot water for showers is solar powered so you won't always get hot water in the morning. Everything works ok, but if you're someone who appreciates crisp bedsheets and a strong, hot morning shower then it might not be quite for you.

“Carmen la Luna en el Alba” is a hotel boutique located in the heart of the Arabic and most visited quarter in the city. It is situated only at 800 metres of the Alhambra Palaces and the Generalife gardens and at 1km of the Cathedral and the city centre. Federico Garcia Lorca Granada-Jaen Airport is just 17 km away from the property. The hotel has free WiFi, 24-hours front desk, pool and buffet breakfast service. All the rooms have a well-kept decoration, double bed, flat-screen TV, air conditioning, heating, radiant flooring, desk, wardrobe and a private bathroom with shower. Some of the rooms have beautiful views to the mountain. The Albayzín quarter is a great option to know Granada through its gastronomy and its flamenco culture.
We were in the off season here in August and it was not so busy what we really liked. The hotel is located in the nice area of Albaicin which is much better than staying in the centre. Alhambra and city centre are only a 10-15 minutes walk away. It was nice to have the refreshing pool to dip into at the end of the day. Albaicín is very nice in the evening. The staff at check in was very very friendly and explained everything. The only was that the room was very small. But we would definitely come again Thanks Omar and Winnie

Reception staff very friendly and welcoming Room a reasonable size and adequately equipped although perhaps in need of some updating, especially the bathroom. However cleanliness was superb. Breakfast and dinner were on the patio. Breakfast was basically continental. The croissants were excellent and good coffee. All meals are waiter served and staff were young and Friendly. Dinner was 4 courses with 2 choices for each course. It is heavily meat based which is not to my personal taste. Fish courses however were excellent. Overall quality and presentation of food were high. The hotel is a very easy 5 minute walk to the beach Parking next to hotel is tricky. There is a drop off area but it seems some people park there permanently. However there are several free car parks in the town. The nearest one is a 5 min walk away (to the entrance). The only negative was not the hotel but the resort. It was a bit rough and run down in places. Beach was sstoney but nice.
